Title: ZyXEL VMG1312-B10D port forwarding
Post by: jelv on November 30, 2018, 11:52:01 AM
Why oh why can't documentation point out an obvious pitfall when trying to set up port forwarding?

I spent hours yesterday try to persuade the B10D to allow access to the web server on my NAS box. While I was trying to test this I found on two or three occasions I was locked out of the ZyXEL's GUI due to too many failed login attempts (I should have twigged then).

This morning I had the idea of testing what I was doing by forwarding FTP which worked first time by using the option on the NAT Applications tab. So I knew what I was trying should work.

Then the light bulb moment - Remote Management! Turned that off for port 80 on the WAN and it all sprang in to life. I've now used the port forward tab to set up forwarding for port 80 only as the Web Server forwarding on the applications tab forwards 80 and 443.

Several hours for what should have been two minutes if they'd put a comment on the page you set up forwarding that web server needs remote management off!  :(
