Title: This is ridiculous
Post by: robinsteele on June 10, 2008, 02:26:10 AM
Hows this for a joke.My pc has 2 x hard drives and originally it came with xp sp2 on c:drive and built in recovery
partition which is d:drive.Now with all my mucking about with ghost and trying to install xp pro,this is the result

When i switch pc on,the boot window asks to boot with xp or xp pro,and if i pick xp,i get xp pro and vice versa

The xp pro ive installed is on my 6.5gb recovery d: drive,instead of my empty big spare drive.

Im away to try to uninstall xp pro,as i dont want anything on my recovery drivei hope it dont wipe out my xp sp2.

Hi, do a Windows search (include system and hidden folders) for
boot.ini
The required one will be the one on your C drive.

When found, open the file with Notepad if given a choice of programs.
XP boot file will look something like this.

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

Your second choice for XP Pro may then follow.
Edit the file so that you are booting into the correct system in the order that you require and then save.
I suggest making a backup copy before doing any changes.

You may need to check that your recovery partition has not been overwritten by your XP Pro install.
