Title: How long is my line?
Post by: Weaver on September 01, 2018, 02:51:30 AM
In an earlier thread, Openreach notes mentioned 7.95 something. I used the freemaptools website and made it about 7300m from exchange to my house by road and the line definitely follows the road because you can just see it lying on the ground in many many places. Could it really be 7950m?

I'm sure when you first joined this forum, or thereabouts, that I worked it out for you, Weaver ??? It would have possibly been using PM rather than on the main forum ..... might be worth trawling back through them ??

The next time your local Openreach operative visits, perhaps you could ask if s/he would perform a TDR trace on one of the four circuits?

@Burakkucat - ah now that is a good idea.

It would give the most precise and meaningful result.

Ah, sudden thought time.

I have absurdly silly little utility that will calculate a value, which I have named "cele" (circuit electrical length equivalent), for any xDSL circuit. If you could harvest the relevant snapshot statistics for each of your four G.992.3 circuits and then dispatch the raw data to The Cattery, I could calculate cele for each one. In theory, the results should be near enough identical but . . . who knows?  :-\

Also ..... if you PM me the tele numbers PLUS your serving DP number, if you have it to hand ??, I will see what I can do, Weaver ?.  :)

Asking on Weaver's behalf . . . Could you perform your lookup having been given the BBEU number for each circuit? As for a DP number, none is known. The cables from NSBFD to Heasta were all EO until quite recently, when an interception was made to install P10 and its Huawei equipped "fibre twin" on the A87 near the Claymore Restaurant.

Alas, no .............. I can perform DSL tests from the BBEU number ...... but not the actual line-length. I may not be able to do so even with the tele number, if it is fully LLU .... but thought it may be worth a try.

Ah, I see. Thank you. The reason why I asked is that I could provide the relevant BBEU numbers.  ;)

Again, on Weaver's behalf, I can say that the broadband service on the four circuits is provided by A&A, who purchase from BT Wholesale, who purchase from Openreach. (LLU (or MPF) does not come into the picture.)
