Starting midday today my PPPoE session went down after an admin reset on the line. I have a ZYXEL VMG-1312-B10A modem on the line with a script to enable the router to see the modem on a single cable for stats collection. That also failed as DSLStats could no longer see the modem. My connection was active due to failover to Three dongle which needs topping up.
Couple of reboots of the Asus and no joy still connecting to Three dongle and no stats. So I got out my spare DSL-N55U and put it in the old one's place and everything springs back to life. So am I right to assume the old N55U has gone awol?

Yes, it does seem so.

Tried the old one again removing the dongle and a factory reset but the DSL-N55U just cant get a PPP session up. Checked username and password both correct looks like it is a goner.

Yes, something else for the electronics recycling pile.

What an annoying coincidence that it gave up at the same time as the admin reset.

I mean it could probably serve a second purpose as WAP. Does the DSL-N55U support other firmwares, is it merlin or something? If it were me I'd try flashing it with something else before deciding its a total goner.

Wifi seems ok and merline might flash. Never thought of an AP as my second N55U seems to have a wifi problem with my amazon echos not being able to keep connected. Dont if that is the router wifi, it came with non standard antenna, or the amazon echos themselves. Just as I was typing this the 3rd N55U has lost wifi connection.
Seems TTB were having problems earlier so when it has all settled down, they decided to upgrade edge routers tonight at 1AM and I lost connection I will re-test the old router.

False alarm the old router is now back in place and working correctly. It must have been a stale session and an admin line reset which caused the router to failover to my three dongle and not re-establish PPP session after the NGE router upgrade. Spare goes back in its box for now.

Ah, that's good to know. :)
