Title: Am I on ECI or Huawei?
Post by: DMZ on July 31, 2018, 03:11:17 PM
Hello community,
I'm hoping one of you guys can help me identify what cabinet I'm connected to.

I moved back to my hometown recently and had BT installed today and for the life of me cannot find where it is. I've had long walks today lol.

My line attenuation according to the Smart Hub is 14.7dB which isn't super long.

I know there is a look up site which I cannot ever navigate nor seem to make sense of. So with some help maybe someone can do some leg work for me.  ;D

Cabinet number 44
Exchange NESU

Fingers crossed no ECI.

Thanks in advance.

If I’ve done it right, it looks as though it’s an ECI.

Oh blimey. Yes indeed it looks to be an ECI cabinet.

Thanks for looking it up for me though.  :)

I wish there was a bit of light at the end of the tunnel for us on these cabinets.  ::)

Can I PM you the postcode? If that would help.
The engineer walked to the cabinet and that street is a bit a way from where I am. He never drove there.

I edited my post. I couldn't even find a fibre cabinet for that PCP.

Moe confident on the 2nd cabinet I posted.

Thanks again for your efforts. The engineer just walked there so it's close... Somewhere.

Ryhope Road is not close to where I am but again thank you for trying to pinpoint it for me.

Looking into the ECI saga it seems no closer to a resolution so it's a bit disappointing being on one again.

Isn't that NESU P_43 and not P_44?  :-\  (The latter seems to be well hidden.)

After looking at the cabinet and postcode from that website, I can see where it is now.

And it is close and of course the routes I walked today were nowhere near it lmao.

ECI - Insert sarcastic tone  >:D

Not being prepared to let one "get away" b*cat, after some searching, declares that NESU P_44 may be found at the end of Marion Road, by the closed off junction with Villette Road. It is up against the wall decorated with an image incorporating the Victoria Cross. The ECI equipped "fibre" cabinet has been painted to merge into the image whilst the primary cross-connection point cabinet remains its original green.

Wow that will be the one!
I live at the top end of Cairo Street near Villette Road. I was looking in the opposite direction like an idiot. That looks rather pretty.

Thank you!  :D

You are welcome.

Interestingly, it looks as if the properties around your location all have aerial drops from a "no-climb needed" hollow pole.

I assume that's good?
I'm a little out of touch with things like that lol.

Another development:
I noticed my BRAS/IP profile for my downstream is set to 55.87Mbps despite the upstream profile being set to 20Mbps. It seems my downstream is set to Infinity 1 and upstream is set to infinity 2.

Usually infinity 2 BRAS/IP profile is set to 80.00/20.00 I believe.

Smart Hub stats:
Data rate:
20.00 Mbps / 57.68 Mbps

Maximum data rate:
23701 / 69015

Noise margin:
6.6 dB / 6.3 dB

Line attenuation:
14.6 dB

Any info for the above?

It's nothing major I can live with it for now.  ::)

Thanks!

The upstream IP profile will always say 20 megabits on an 80/20 service regardless of what your actual upstream sync rate is. The downstream IP profile tracks your downstream sync rate so is correct. As the upstream IP profile says 20 megabits then you are on 80/20, unless banded/capped by DLM which you don't appear to be.

Thanks for the response. I'm a bit underwhelmed with my current download speeds. I'm happy with the upload though as I do 1080p 60fps streams on youtube. I'll just leave it as is then.

Edit:
My download was initially 57.88Mbps then lowered to 57.68Mbps, line attenuation dropped from 14.7dB to 14.6dB - After a dusting mishap (Pressed the power button)

I noticed in this thread:
https://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php/topic,22082.0.html

That new lines have low error correction applied now which makes sense since my pings are low 20s rather than low teens. So that's news to me, maybe that's why my downstream is a bit pupped for now.

Well done! I searched the whole length of Villette Road but ended up searching the opposite side of the cabinets coverage area.
I was at the right end, just going blind!

b*cat bows and purrs "Thank you".  ;)

If your line is interleaved (which it looks to be), then the estimated maximum 69Mbps (attainable rate) downstream speed will be much higher than it actually is, so if you are moved to fast path then you should sync somewhere between the two, around 63Mbps at a guess.

Every little helps and all that.

I'd like fast path as I'm primarily a gamer and a live streamer, I mean thus far all is well. But of course naturally I'd like to get the most out of it. When I had BT in my old place it was interleaved (ECI cabinet also) when installed. Two days later fast path was applied.

So here's hoping it'll happen ASAP.

A final update and a happy one at that.

At around 2AM DLM intervened, gave me fast path (Yipee!) a speed increase on my download and generally overall getting the best I can out of my line. Everything is much snappier too.

My prediction of DLM removing it seems to have rung true. And an indicator that my line is good enough without needing interleave.  :fingers:
Still a silly idea by having low error protection on for new fttc lines since February.

Smart Hub stats:
Data rate:
20.00 Mbps / 61.93 Mbps

Maximum data rate:
23615 / 62142

Noise margin:
6.5 dB / 6.3 dB

Line attenuation:
14.7 dB

Overall I'm happier knowing my line is pretty much using it's actual potential now. I'm excited to do my live streams and game.  :D

Alls well that ends well.

Your internet downstream speed is 23 times faster than mine, and if your upstream speed is 20 Mbps, then that is 44 times faster than mine.  ;D

And there was me thinking the other day that I should be getting more than 57Mbps. And with my little boost today, well shush I will.
