Title: Filters on the front end of some ZyXEL modems
Post by: Weaver on July 30, 2018, 04:11:59 PM
I am told that some but not all ZyXEL modems in their modem-routers have some kind of magic tasty (analog?) pre-front-end noise filter or something integrated into the AFE maybe. And this is a very good thing.

How did Kitizens discover this? Are there any details about it published anywhere? I would like some reading matter.

J0hn recently mentioned in a post that other ZyXEL devices aside from my own VMG 1312-B10A have this magic ingredient. I did not know that - just stupidly assumed that it was the only one. So actually I could have looked at other contenders then which would be equally good as straight modems - is that the case? (I would have also wanted to have MTU 1508 too so would probably need to stick to the models for which our own Johnson’s custom build kmmods are applicable.)

I've only seen it on the VMG8x24-B10A's and VMG1312-B10A's.
This with the BCM63168 chipset makes those 2 modems the highest syncing I've used.
I've tried a number of other BCM63168 modems (Billions, Netgear, TP-Link,) and none of them sync as high as the 2 Zyxel models with the noise filter.

A number of other members find the exact same.

Others well be in a better position to explain the technical wonders of this.

Has anyone else seen a source for this info?
