Title: Wall-mounting modems
Post by: Weaver on June 24, 2018, 06:42:24 PM
I have got hold of some sticky picture hanger type pads and Mrs Weaver is going to stick all the modems onto the wall right near to the NTE5s. I have bought some 0.25m RJ11-RJ45 cables from run-it-direct, made up from CW1308-type twisted pair. Should neaten everything up a bit and get the modems that little bit further away from any mains of any sort.

Will try some TDK ferrites on the modems’ DC cables, for good or ill. I hear the warnings, but all I can do is try it and measure and see, maintaining due skepticism.

Are you sure that sticky pads will remain stuck when the modems get warm?

I have my two modems and switch screw mounted onto an old piece of shelving which I simply lean against the wall. Cables etc. can be neatly tucked behind and no damage to the wall.

@roseway Good point - will consult with Mrs Weaver. They are strips meant for hanging pictures and she mentioned quite a weight capability, but I just don’t know.

I use Gorilla Heavy Duty Mounting Tape (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Gorilla-Heavy-Mounting-Double-Sided-Black/dp/B019HT1U9E) to hold up my UV & Heat bulbs to my terrarium. They are considerably heavier than a Zyxel modem and sit under a 40° light all day long.
They can hold pretty heavy weights.

If what you have is anything like that it will do the job sufficiently.
Bog standard double sided tape may not.

Mrs Weaver showed me these velcro-like things - they are supposed to hold 5kg, so sounds encouraging.
