Could someone recommend some ferrites for me? To fit on modems’ dc cables. Could you point me to a supplier?
I recall that I have been warned about this voodoo before. ;D

One other thing:
Did someone recently mention putting them around DSL cables? Did I really read that right? Would that not be the last thing you would want, to block high frequency ‘noise’ ie - signal? ?Or have ?I misunderstood?
-
I got a few packs from Maplin many moons ago, I suspect an internet bidding website would be your best bet.
-
Yes, I got mine from Maplin I think last time. But have they not had it now?
-
Unfortunately yes, They went into administration and had a big sell off of their old stock. You could try RS or Farnell but I suspect they will be more expensive than other places.

There's these cables on eBay which claim to be a choked screened stranded Cat6 twisted copper pair cable. I use them on both of my connections. Don't know if there's a massive difference to be honest but figured it must be better than the cheap flat cable that's normally supplied with modems.
-
Interesting. I've always just used the chunky adslnation/Lindy (think that's where I got them??) Cable. Can't see them on their website anymore though.

I'm looking for microfilters for VDSL2, any direction?
-
Not rhetorical questions . . .
Those who use a screened (or shielded) xDSL cable, to what is the screening (or shielding) connected? And how is is connected? :-\

Without cutting open the cable I don't imagine I could answer that, and I don't want to do that as it would probably damage the cable :P.

I can save you the trouble. The screening (or shielding) is not connected to anything. Consider the modular plugs at either end. There is no dedicated pin for such a connection. :)

I suspect the answer is that it isn't grounded at all.
To my mind there is no such thing as a properly shielded (and grounded at both ends) dsl cable.
-
Very true, but I guess the cable doesn't claim that it's grounded either :).

VDSL2 should be connected via a filtered faceplate at the master socket if at all possible.
If microfilters must be used, so-called VDSL2 types are the same as any microfilter - essentially a low pass filter to pass voice and block broadband.

Thanks for confirming what I've heard, although when I said VDSL2 I meant qualified/high-spec.

This thread seems to have got off topic. I myself am the worst of offenders. ;D could maybe split the last n posts and discuss cables elsewhere.
I asked about spec of ferrites and suppliers, in relation to dc cables. I will try eBay.

Ebay 4mm TDK cable ferrites.
