Title: Mór-theine nam mòine ’s nan coilltean
Post by: Weaver on May 27, 2018, 06:19:51 PM
Skye is on fire and the mainland is on fire. Dopey beggars in a camper van left a disposable barbecue and set the whole of a forest on fire. Near Gleann Dhroighnich or somewhere in Skye is one place and at Diabaig and as far as Srath Carrann on the mainland in another case. Janet can see the mainland fire in the distance from the top of the the moor at the Fireach Clach which is the high point on the road from Heasta to Boardford.

More than 20 years of growth in forestry commission plantations wiped out in a day. It seems they need to plan them with huge firebreaks, but the gaps would have to be enormous to work, that is the weakness.

The first one was near Crosal wihich is on the road from the Sligeachan Inn towards Dùn Bheagan, just a few miles north west of the pub, well before before you get to Sruthán, so I believe. That was due to campers.

That is 14 miles north west of me, as the crow flies, in the other side of the (red) Cuilfhionn mountains and (right by the house) Beinn nan Càrn which is to the north of me.
