The Superfast North Yorkshire project in England has revealed which will be the first areas to benefit from their £20.5m Phase 3 contract with Openreach (BT). This aims to deploy Gigabit capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband to cover 12,500 local premises (14,239 if you include FTTC).

At present around 90% of premises in the county can already access “superfast broadband” (24Mbps+) speeds as a result of earlier project phases and commercial deployments. The Phase 3 contract was agreed at the start of this year and is expected to push the coverage of superfast capable connectivity up to around 95% by mid-2021.

Cllr Don Mackenzie, Executive Member for Broadband, said:

“The technology will be the best available and will be able to handle even higher speeds as improvements in service, equipment and demand follow. Phase three puts the quality of broadband provision to some of our most remote communities on to a new, much higher level.

It is great news for residents who have been waiting patiently for Superfast North Yorkshire to get to them and they will be rewarded with some of the best broadband quality in the country.”
