I have made my first sighting of a Huawei MT992 Modem (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Huawei-MT992-Openreach-modem-for-Ultrafast-g-fast-broadband/232719481647) (for a G.9700/9701 service) available on eBay. It has a "Buy it now" price of £400! :o
I wonder how long it will be before the installed software is fully analysed and modified to unlock its GUI?
-
£400 lol.. hope its gold plated internally for that
-
Ouch at that price! :o
I'd rather get an Asus DSL-AC88U which is supposed to contain a BCM chip. Still not cheap at ~£200 but the first VDSL2 combined modems where >£200. Hopefully the prices of combined units will drop when other manufacturers start making G.fast modem/routers to the general public.
Wouldn't be surprised if the seller has actually bought a DSL-AC88U and why he is selling the MT992.
-
When I saw the listing, I thought that the seller had probably been given a BT SmartHub X and been left the MT992 when their line was installed.
Regardless, if I could get g.fast etc., I wouldn't want to use any unapproved kit like an Asus on the line atm - the technology is just too new imho.
-
I wondered if the seller had access to goods being dispatched out from Magna Park (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magna_Park,_Lutterworth), to be issued as van stock to Openreach technicians. :-X
-
I wondered that too at first, but when I looked the other night (granted not in great detail), but he appeared to use ebay mostly to purchase and if he did work at a certain location, then I would have expected there to be more than one.
-
On checking the eBay listing (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Huawei-MT992-Openreach-modem-for-Ultrafast-g-fast-broadband/232719481647) I now see --
This listing was ended by the seller because there was an error in the listing.
I wonder what was the error? Decimal point, of the price, in the wrong position? Or . . . :-\
-
Not sure but certainly far in excess of what it should be. :o I notice that he's also selling an Airport Extreme for £120 when the usual buy-it now price is ~£85 or £60-65 in auction.
The fact that he was selling a MT922 & an Airport Router suggests that he has got a new (and decent) AIO unit to me, otherwise you'd think he'd keep hold of the Airport Extreme.

Earlier this evening I came across another Huawei MT992 modem (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Huawei-MT992-G-fast-Modem-Ultrafast-or-Gfast/192883187999), on eBay, with a buy it now price of £275. :o ::)

I was notified of the listing by eBay
I offered £1 with an accompanying message conveying my disgust at the price.
Needless to say it was rejected.
I have a hunch they are either a member here or they lurk.
I honestly hope some "Muppet" buys it and screws them over with a PayPal claim.
"Not as described" and return the item with an old Huawei HG612.

I can't comprehend why they are being listed at such ridiculous high prices. >:( They probably only cost Openreach <£20.
That is way too much money to be wanting to pick one up as a spare and anyhow if you had a problem then you'd just get a replacement from either Openreach or your ISP.
Personally if I had g.fast I'd be wanting an all in one unit, just because I like less clutter and once set up I never have any need to mess around with the LAN/WLAN or PPP side. My daughter hates their MT992 and the Fritz!box which she says is fugly in their front room.
I'd much rather get an ASUS DSL-AC88U with the BCM61638 & decent wifi for £190, as opposed to an overpriced locked down box you can't do stuff all with.

We have a significant number of lurkers, some of whom are definite eBay cowboys. :-X >:(

Oh, look . . .
Here's another Huawei MT992 (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Huawei-MT992-G-Fast-Modem/163649463762) that has been listed for auction on eBay, with bids starting at £300-00. ::)
-
For anyone wanting to use BT's G.Fast service and wanting a modem to work with there router.
Currently there are very few modems that work with BT's G.Fast service which makes this box a "Most Wanted Item".
Not at that price it doesn't :o £300 for a modem only worth about £20 >:(
-
Another one has now been listed (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Huawei-Openreach-MT992-G-Fast-ADSL-Modem/333167388987). The "Buy it now" price is only £200-00 or "Make offer". ::)
-
Oh look, here's another one (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Huawei-MT992-Openreach-modem-for-Ultrafast-g-fast-broadband-G-fast/233250484980) available at a quite ridiculous auction starting price of £800-00. :o It's a used device, not even new.
-
OMG. Someone has got to be having a joke, because that beggars belief. :o
-
It's their own time they're wasting with those absurd prices.
-
Collection in person only for that listing.
