Title: Micro Mart Freebie Software
Post by: Floydoid on May 15, 2008, 10:44:38 AM
The latest issue of Micro Mart magazine (out today - costs £2) has a promising looking cover disk with 256 free applications.

I'm just about to have trawl through it, so I'll probably comment more later.

Yes please Floydoid.
I need a change from my regular mag.
Not too bothered about the disc as I never use them except as coasters, more interested in the content.
But I will be checking the shop later when I go.

Quite a lot of good applications on there... I think the star attraction is probably Open Office - very handy if you don't want to d/l it.

I've only recently started buying Micro Mart and I find it much more meatier and a more interesting read than a certain other fortnightly PC magazine that I stopped buying about 18 months ago.

(MM is weekly BTW)

The trouble with the other one is after 8 years it becomes a bit of a habit, although on several occasions I have threatened myself to cancel it and just keep forgetting to, and they have only last week took the next subscription.

The only reason it lasts 2 weeks is because I usually forget about it, then it takes all of a couple of hours to read it, mainly because I don't bother with the adverts, games section and a couple of other bits that are of no interest to me.

Also "most" of the questions are also on their web-site.
So MM should be a nice pleasant change.

I haven't seen MicroMart recently, but I always used to think that it was very amateurish, and I got the impression that it was written by schoolboys. So you really should take anything they say with a pinch of suspicion.

I have to say their magazine made a nice change, not too much long winded advertising "which I didn't mind" because at least it keeps you informed of prices and various things.

As for the disc with 256 Hand Picked Programs.
Well, I got a little bored this evening so popped it into the drive to have a nose, and was pleasantly surprised at the amount of useful items that were there.
I know a lot of them are freely available on the net, but it's still nice to have them in one place.

Obviously I appreciate not all the articles were of interest to me, but those that were made a good read, especially with the sense of humour thrown in.
So now it looks like I'll have to buy it again.
