Title: Wins 7 64 bit
Post by: Shaft on January 06, 2018, 02:32:56 PM
I am having trouble with my pc refusing to start.   I switch on the power press the start button the fans come on but the screen stays blank.   I press restart, same again.    Press start button for some time to stop, nothing happens.   So I switch off power and then wait for a min or two.   Switch on power press start button, sometimes it boots up, sometimes I go through the whole proceedure again before it will start.
Help.

Nothing at all, just a blank screen.   I think I might just reload the OS and start afresh, but this is a painin rear.

This sounds more like a power supply or motherboard/memory problem as it should always POST irrespective of whether it can load Windows or not.
I would open it up and re-seat all connections (including memory) before trying anything else.

If you're getting nothing, not even UEFI/BIOS, then it's nothing to do with the OS.
Sounds more like a hardware issue.

Is your monitor power light is staying on?

Just eliminating a faulty monitor etc

Sounds like the 5v rail has gone... this is quite a common problem, check by substituting for a good quality power supply.
Symptoms to look out for are

Press button ..... nothing happens
Then it might start

We have a PC at work which has a habit of booting up..... to a black screen! (All the fans are on and the Hard drive light blinks)
If we restart by powering down (Single press on power button) then start again, it will boot fine... ???
This is a Lenovo PC, some where (During boot) it's not handing over to the Windows Graphics driver.
