Title: High Winds & Heavy Rain
Post by: burakkucat on January 02, 2018, 11:57:37 PM
. . . are now present in East Anglia.  :(

I understand that both Northern Ireland and the Republic have already been hit.

Edited to add: From the BBC (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-42538533).

I have a friend in Co Down where there's no power atm.   She says it feels worse than the tail end of the hurricane a few months back.

From the map I looked at earlier we are about to get the brunt of it later, but already its a tad windy.

Hmmm, nothing untoward forecast by Met Office when I looked earlier today, M4 corridor.

But it is getting distinctly blowy outside.   And the resident owls in the roadside sycamores,  who’s hooting normally wafts me off to sleep, seem to be rather quiet. ???

I wonder how N*Star is fairing . . . Looking via MDWS it seems as if he has had a couple of relatively short power outages since midnight.

A bit of rain up here yesterday, but no wild weather at all. Seems like I'm well above it again. This seems to be happening more and more often, storms going to Ireland / Wales / England or as far up as Glasgow. Snow has been gone for a good while now, very warm.

Wind has been the main feature here. Max gust was 45.1 mph at 00:45 but it is still gusting around 38 mph now (07:48) and sustained speeds of 25 mph or so. Due to abate as the day progresses. We've had very little rain in the past 24 hours.

Always interesting to look at the ‘last 24 hours’ data on Met Office website.

Nearby data shows wind peaked here around 3am, gusting to a bit under 50mph.  But there’s been some pretty noisy gusts in the past few minutes.  Enough to make me nervy, but it all depends on direction as we live under a hill, will be interesting to see the numbers when available.

Beeb mentions Great Dun Fell in Cumbria as being a place affected.   Data suggests they are right, 100mph at 1am,  98mph at 4am.     :o

For a change, we've been spared here in east central Scotland. Very calm sunny morning, with a light breeze. Just been to the beach and enjoyed a long walk by the shore.  :)
