Title: munin plugin to measure HG612 stats - uses Bash and telnet
Post by: speculatrix on November 12, 2017, 03:50:19 PM
Hello,

TL;DR:  Here's a plugin for munin to measure your HG612's operating parameters so you get nice graphs.

I unlocked my HG612 xDSL modem, partly just because I can, mostly to get decent line stats out of it. Many thanks to the people who did this, documented it, and provided firmware and updates for it.

I use Munin for monitoring things, and one of the great things about munin is that writing plugins is easy and fun.

So I finally got round to writing a plugin which grabs the stats from the modem so that they can be graphed.

This plugin is written purely in bash, and uses telnet to get the values. It should be possible to re-use the work for other monitoring systems like Zabbix or Nagios - I might even write such a thing if the urge takes me.

I hope this proves useful.

Here's the URL again: https://github.com/speculatrix/hg612/tree/master
regards
Paul

this is rather interesting, I've never tracked my stats before.

looks like BT dropped the TX power at the cabinet, and sync speed dropped a lot :-(

Possible DLM has banded/capped the sync. That's quite a sudden/sharp drop. Are you in the UK?
If DLM has banded the line, the lower sync speed (caused by the banding) results in a lower power being needed.

I have no idea why the speed should have dropped. The only thing that's changed is I started to monitor the stats!

My linux router reported that PPP dropped and restarted at that time.

I noticed a BT OpenReach van outside the local exchange ( https://availability.samknows.com/broadband/exchange/EAMAD ) this morning on the way to work.

:-(

I restarted my vdsl modem again and now it's back to normal.

The WebUI is wrong. Can you post telnet stats?
