Being the BBC website, I fully expected that accurate reporting would not be allowed to interfere with a "good story".  ::)

Being the BBC website, I fully expected that accurate reporting would not be allowed to interfere with a "good story".  ::)

In all fairness it was a quote from the person who made the Openreach van effigy for the bonfire.

From a quick look on the map it really is rural..  just a tiny hamlet of about a dozen cottages and a few farms in the middle of nowhere. - gmap link (https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Templeton,+Tiverton+EX16+8BL/@50.9107492,-3.5984933,3709m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x486db84dedc6ecbf:0x8409b908b8e4c73d!8m2!3d50.91354!4d-3.586457).
Running a check on a B&B guest house in Templeton Bridge, which is further outside of the Hamlet.

They managed to get a cable to the nearby hamlet of Nomansland, but just eight kilometres further and there's nothing.

Well I guess that would be because Nomansland is on the B3137 which runs between Witheridge and Tiverton.
That last 8km is all country lanes.

In previous years they've burnt Wallace & Gromit, Dr Who & the Daleks and a Viking ship.    :D

That story has subsequently been re-edited since I posted my comment and the BBC nonsense has been corrected. Unfortunately -- for the BBC -- I have now noticed.  >:(

Seems like they have now had some input from Openreach which I cant recall seeing first time reading.
Megabyte gone and now 1 megabit.

BT said Templeton in Devon is extremely rural, which made the rollout of fibre broadband "more challenging".
It said it was working hard to find alternative ways of bringing faster broadband to residents, including a community fibre partnership and a mobile broadband solution.

Reading between the lines, first time around they just took the word of "Mr Lindon" without fully investigating what was going on

Unfortunately -- for the BBC -- I have now noticed.  >:(

Hey why ruin a good story?   Everyone [not just the BBC] likes to bash Openreach at how crap they are.
The fact that Witheridge is unviable and not even TT & Sky etc are interested in LLU nvm FTTx is besides the point ::)

Megabyte gone and now 1 megabit.

Indeed, the headline paragraph indeed reads

‘as many are struggling with speeds of less than 1 megabit.’

Good to see they are on the ball and have expert technical staff on hand to advise, when mistakes need to be rectified.   I wonder if they’ll now give up and leave it, or keep on guessing what it should really say?

Burning effigies - even of pretend vans - is just not nice.

Will it be a Gigaclear van next year?

This could be seen as a Hate Crime from Openreach's perspective, We know how sensitive the world has become due to political correctness it won't be to long now if someone farts in public they will end up in court charged with Excessive Flatulence in a public place and with an attempt to cause high emissions of methane gas.

I was watching a recent "Ambulance" programme where the patient was tagged with previous violence to a carer, so any NHS crew had to wait for police attendance before they could see the guy.

Real violence, or even threats, isn't tolerated much these days.

But ... Bonfire night usually manages to find a fall guy for something. I don't think we can mistake this for a real threat.

Real violence, or even threats, isn't tolerated much these days.

...except of course if it by the government or the organisation.
They can lie through their back teeth and threaten as much as they like without any sanction at all.
