Title: VMG3925-B10A Wifi
Post by: banger on September 08, 2017, 09:13:36 PM
I have just got round to testing the 5ghz on the above router and I can't get above 54mbps using an Asus N53 USB dongle and the 3925. Seller reckoned he used it for a month. Is it possible that the Asus which is a N device isn't correctly talking to the 3925 or is the 3925 wifi faulty?

I was at least expecting 300mbps but Inssider says max 54mbps. I have tried a generic dual band dongle too and that is show 54mbps too.

I just turned on my laptop with an centrino advanced-n 6235 wireless card in it and it connects at 300mbps albeit with about 90 centimetres of the 3925 as it is on the same desk. Are you measuring it close to the router or elsewhere in the house. I'm pretty sure mine drops off a lot elsewhere in the house but not in a position to test right now.

Hmmm I am testing next to the router with a dongle. Looks like I have a defective unit. I have registered it with ZyXEL and as far as I know it is still under warranty, haven't heard back from the seller yet. Is that on 5ghz as with 2.4ghz I only get 144.

Further experiments and checking on windows dongle status shows the 5g connecting at 144mbps and the 2.4g at 300. I would have expected 300 on the 5g unless it is bandwidth limited.

Please forgive me it is user error. Inssider is reporting 54mbps but the dongle is reporting 144mbps at 20mhz bandwidth. I then changed the bandwidth on 5g on the 3925 and the dongle is connecting at 300mbps. Damn these user errors. :D
