Title: How do you guys check speeds of a future house?
Post by: Bowdon on August 23, 2017, 05:01:30 PM
My cousin is thinking of buying a house in Lincoln, and though the broadband speed link says up to 71Mbps I was wondering how people on the forums managed to get an estimate of the speed?

I noticed the bt checker doesnt give much information away using a post code.

That's a good tip! (I didnt notice that before doh  :-[ )

I found it.

It seems it has a max of 38 / 7 on FTTC. BUT also has available FTTP 330 / 30.

If that's FttpOD it's very expensive and much cheaper to bond 2 or more FTTC connections using AAISP if for some reason 38/7 is somehow not adequate

Or, informally ask the vendors.

Neighbours of mine are selling at the moment.  They are still on sub-1Mbps ADSL, because they choose to be.  But when a prospective buyer asked about broadband speed they were able to quote that I get circa 20-30 on FTTC, because they asked and I told them so,on the understanding it was just an informal  ballpark figure.
