Hi
I hope someone may be able to help sorry
We have a client (very long story and cannot sat too much), which we are tasked with to help, with their clients they take over from (insolvency related)
On one case we are dealing with, a Pstn line can receive calls, is used for dsl which is working but no calls can be made
You hear a dial tone, no noise etc so it's clear, but on the 5 digit, it simply goes to pitch tone and no call can be made
My initial thought was outgoing call blocking without a 4 digit pin been inputted first, but the client has asked the people at the company and they say it never had one
Would bt ever stop outgoing calls whilst leaving incoming calls working, and bt broadband working
My thought is it should work in full or be disconnected
Any ideas greatly welcome as I do not think bt would be helpful in resolving this matter, but if I had too, I will ring them.
Many thanks
John

I would guess that outgoing calls are blocked because the bill hasn't been paid, but the line rental was paid in advance and is still valid.
-
Sounds like a 'stopped' line ie no line rental is being paid, for whatever reason, but the broadband is being paid for, or has unintentionally been left in service.
-
'Stopped' or 'TOS' (Temporarily out of service), won't allow incoming or outgoing calls. :)
-
PS ......... it simply sounds like 'OCB' has been applied.

Hi
Many thanks
I am receiving reports broadband is not working, but can ring the number and the fax answers. (Fax is also used on broadband line)
So I think your all correct and service is restricted and been ceased.
Payment - it is in administration and bt notified as all creditors have to be, which usually stops most services asap, unless information is needed, and an obligation is that provider to maintain services (even with no payment). However, this is in exceptional cases only - I have only ever had to invoke this via the IP (Insolvency Practitioner), which authorises our company to act on their behalf when dealing with technical/IT systems.
Once again, many thanks for you help, it's appreciated and just wanted to make sure I had not overlooked anything for outgoing calls.
Many thanks
John

Hi BS - point taken, but I meant 'stopped' as in when someone moves out of a property, and the line is stopped so it can subsequently be 'started' when someone else moves in.
In that situation surely there is incoming service, and also dial tone , but as described in the OP calls will fail after the first few digits.
TOS of course is different.

Just thought I'd google that to check, and I'm wrong. :-[

Ha ha ..... was just about to reply to the other comment above, and then saw the very last comment you made.
What would we do without 'GOOGLE' for reference, eh ?? :) :) :)

Ask amongst ourselves and make a decision based on the majority response, perhaps? ;)

Excite and Lycos for me, although I also recall the likes of Ask Jeeves and DogPile etc.
I do believe that Excite was my main portal from about 1996 used with Netscape Gold.
