Title: Unidentified BT object
Post by: andyfitter on August 07, 2017, 04:26:49 PM
Anybody know what this is? Its situated on the entrance path to our flats, although I presume its related to either the original factory on the site, or something used by the builders when it was redeveloped about 5 years ago. Its about 10 feet up the wall, and is about 18 inches high, with 'BT' marked on it.

I hope its not used any more as the cable has been mostly yanked out the bottom.

It's a BT18C .............. basically a point where the underground cable feed meets the separate wires feeding various telephone sockets.

They're more commonly seen at the top of wooden poles, but of course are sometimes used in 'Cable on wall' locations. It has probably been made obsolete now if the premises has been made into apartments, which will be internally fed.
Also, there is no evidence of any other wiring other than the underground 'feed' cable, showing.

For completeness (and I trust that B*Sheep won't mind my addendum) the "BT" in the device's name, "BT18C", stands for "Block, Terminal".  :)
