Title: MDWS down
Post by: roseway on June 24, 2017, 06:35:46 PM
I've heard from Tony about this. He sends his apologies, but he's away from home in a different part of the country, and probably won't be back until tomorrow evening. He's remotely restarted the server a number of times, but without success, possibly as a result of corruption. It will be best to disable your MDWS uploads until we hear from him.

Yes the website is down - at least it's timing out on me. However although the DSLStats validation check fails I am not getting any upload fail alerts from DSLStats so I have no idea if upload is still working or not but DSLStats does seem to be working OK.

Timing out is what  it has done all the time as far as I know, as for the uploads still working, it think it will be a case of our machines trying to send  but the MDWS server not responding, so unlikely, that's what i'm seeing in Wireshark

Tony has confirmed on the main MDWS thread that his server is indeed in trouble and it is likely to need a restore and db rebuild.

Arghhhhh  >:D but a different reason to previous outages...

Malware bytes (new version in past week) has decided that one of the essential server files is 'Malware.Ransom.Agent.Generic' and quarantined it but it won't restore it! The directory was excluded from scanning so will be contacting them.

I have been rebuilding a new disk after the previous problems so will have to finish that now and get it running. But due to other commitments I am unlkely to get this done until tommorrow afternoon at the earliest. Apologies.

MDWS is back up again. Hopefully it will keep going this time! Still have to go out but looks stable.

Thanks.

Tony, as a very recent convert to MDWS I am just beginning to realise the amount of time and effort you put into this facility, your dedication is very much appreciated, glad to see the system up & running again, very well done.

Thank you and others that have made similar remarks. It does impart a good feeling  :)

MDWS may have been running slowly as half way up the M23 I suddenly remembered I hadn't done something but had to wait until I got back.  Should be okay now.

I did notice it was like wading through treacle but thought it was just part of the catch up processing....  ;)

It is a very useful application and we all appreciate the effort you make to keep it going but remember there's more to life than computing (at least according to my wife  ;)  )
