Title: Win 10 Crashes
Post by: Peter on April 02, 2017, 03:25:29 PM
Win 10 has been crashing a lot lately, or is it my fault?

27 Mar Faulty Hardware Corrupted Page.
28 Mar System Service Exception
29 Mar IRQL  Not Less or Equal
1 Apr  Memory Management
2 Apr Data Inpage Error

These are just some of the error messages I have been getting far too often.  Is there any way of preventing this?  I have looked on line for some of these but come away more confused than usual.

I also get an error message from my printer after I've been using it for a while saying 'Another computer is using the printer', I tried clearing the print queue but only re booting the pc cures it.

Can you help please.

I am no brain on here, but have you installed anything new? I found  this (http://www.solvusoft.com/en/errors/blue-screen-errors/microsoft-corporation/windows-operating-system/bug-check-0x12b-faulty-hardware-corrupted-page/) that suggests such errors may be so caused. Have you used the available troubleshooters?

Yes I have downloaded new programmes, the last one was Kodi, and the error messages seem to have intensified since then.

Although I was getting crashes before that.

Not tried any Troubleshooter yet.

You have my sympathy; explanations from Msoft are not the most helpful. I have had problems, that resulted in my spending my pennies on a replacement PC!

This is an excellent forum, but Windows matters are not its true focus, so I'd suggest that you also look at  Windows 10 Forums (https://www.tenforums.com/), where there are tutorials as well as the forum. It's very good, so you may like to consider joining.

@Kitz and mods: am i forgiven for "selling" the other forum? ;D

Of course you are.  :)  If you can help Peter resolve his current problems, then its a job well done.

My first thought is to test the memory in the system.

Memtest86 can be used for offline testing, this should be allowed to go through at least one full pass.
But I have found the app windows app 'mem test' to be better, and its online so can still use pc at same time.

The free version of mem test limits I think each test to 2 gig of ram, but you can run multiple instances to overcome the limit.  I have had bad ram pass on memtest86 but never have been able to bad pass ram on mem test.

http://hcidesign.com/memtest/

you should reboot prior to running so it can test as much ram as possible as it cannot test ram allocated to other processes.

IRQL  Not Less or Equal - suspect faulty driver or addon hardware, not sure if bad ram can cause this.
Faulty Hardware Corrupted Page - this points to bad ram or corrupt swapfile, hence my suggestion.

If memory tests ok, than if cpu overclocked remove the overclock.
Then check for what kernel level drivers are installed.

Kernel level drivers are hardware drivers, security software usually installs drivers, virtual machine software usually installs drivers.

Could you post your current hardware including any attached devices (Printers, webcams, etc) so that we may narrow down any potential culprits :fingers:

Thanks all, sorry I didn't reply earlier but only just seen the Apr 3 posts, although I selected notification option

I have since downloaded two drivers for my Canon ip7250 printer, I've yet to try that again though.
The new webcam I have is not currently connected.
I also have a Canon scanner connected.

Thanks for the help.

PS when I log onto this forum I get the attached message, nothing happens when I click on it.

That is odd. Would you please take the Profile option in the menu bar, above, and check the configurable options for your account.

I was thinking about the settings under Profile ==> Modify Profile ==> Notifications for your account.  :)

Was your Windows 10 an upgrade install over a previous OS like 7 or Windows 8/8.1 ?

Win 10 is an upgrade from win 8.1, I should point out that these error messages seem to come in flurries then I have  quite long periods free of them, maybe I should stop downloading new progs to try?

Seeing as these are blue screens, it may be worth trying to repair Windows files.

These commands should both be run in command line (PowerShell or CMD) with administrator privileges (right click Start button ->  Windows PowerShell (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin) ).

Code: [Select]
sfc /scannow
Code: [Select]
dism /online /cleanup-image /checkhealth
These should identify any corrupted system components and repair them. This is generally a good first step.

I would put a new Sata cable on.... I have seen these sorts of errors due to bad connection on Sata oprt to harddrive.

What I would do would be use a program called blue screen view http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html (http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html) and that will allow you to look at the crash log files (if you have them turned on).

Secondly I'd do steps 1 to 5 in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E5_298YUvB8 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E5_298YUvB8) the video is about fixing the start menu and cortana.. but I've found that it seems to correct other odd things too.

The other thing to do would be to update windows to the next version that's available now. I had problems with a previous version of windows 10 and using the media creator to over install corrected the issues.

If all those things don't solve the problem then I agree with others that it sounds like a hardware issue.

Open device manager. Do you have any ! exclamation marks over anything?
