Title: Sub 6dB Target SNRM Announced
Post by: Black Sheep on March 17, 2017, 07:40:14 AM
DLM profiles with lower target margins go national on Monday 20 March

Last year, to improve line speed for our end customers’ we started a trial on 40k active lines. The great news is that a percentage of these selected FTTC circuits saw the dB margin reduce from 6dB to as low as 3dB so this selection process will become national in a phased roll out.

I'm afraid this is the quote (minus the piece to engineers about resets) in its entirety, Chrys. No mention of Huw and/or ECI amongst it.  :-\

I'd also be interested to know if us ECI users are also getting these new profiles.

wasn't the general feeling ECI would need to see G.INP first before the lower profiles. I know that on the recent trial on those southwest cabs it stated ECI cabs were excluded...

here's hoping perhaps we might get G.INP back soon - wishful thinking   :-\

ISP Review have posted an update:

http://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.php/2016/11/speed-boost-bt-openreach-prep-3db-snr-fttc-broadband-lines.html

Doesn't look good for ECI users :'(

yeap on it goes..... eci users losing out again...

"openreach has confirmed to ISPreview.co.uk that the roll-out is still due to commence this month as planned (phased roll-out) and some updated performance data from their extended trial is due to be shared with ISPs over the next couple of weeks.

We also asked whether ECI based VDSL2 DSLAMS (Street Cabinets) would continue to be excluded from the roll-out (as first reported here) and they confirmed that the enhancement will only be applied to Huawei based DSLAMS. ECI kit has become notorious for causing problems with various VDSL2 enhancements and changes.

Remember, not everybody will benefit from the new SNR profiles and Openreach’s DLM technology won’t apply the lower margin(s) unless your line is deemed likely to benefit"

No surprises there really,  all I need to know is when our second cab is live.

It'll be interesting to see this in action with circuits who have variable SNRM's you know the type the ones that swings by + or - 1dB during 24 hours, without knowing what safety measures have been put in place in the DLM then good long stats are required.

Have only monitored one such circuit on MDWS that had a swinging SNRM and to me it looked very erratic or the person in question had broadband/telephone line problems.

Was looking for you on MDWS and now see your username, I'm sorry but can't understand what is going on with your previous 4 days of SNRM it's erratic  :yuck:

Looking carefully it does not look like your line is on this sub 6dB SNRM trial

Had a resync at 00:24 today. Have an extra couple of megabits.

Not sure what to do with it all. My life is now complete and I can die happy. I'm nearly up to 2/3rds the download speed I had 6 years ago.

I think it must be after after the sync early this morning. I'm on Infinity 1 so have some headroom.

Wont matter what happens to my line as both TalkTalk and BTOR consider my line is not stable enough to have the 60000kbps cap removed. With that in place a 3db SNRM or G.INP will make f*** all difference.

Wouldn't G.INP make your line more stable, and so might make a difference?

Black Sheep your posts are very welcome.

Is anyone else of the opinion if BT tell their engineers half the information no wonder they are confused when they try to educate end users.

How can it be a nationwide rollout if 30% of the cabinets are not included? I hope ECI will be included but I am beginning to think BT are just being untruthful and a nationwide rollout will never happen.

It is a pity a decent ISP does not take up the cause and try to apply pressure on BT to ensure ECI cabinet customers are not left behind.

Already says ECI not included....

Should be titled  "huawei nationwide roll out"

So does that mean us eci cabinet users get a discount for a sub standard  service...........I think not but maybe it's time to look into it

tried to look for the contact who gave me info last summer, but I lost it, searched email client for the emails for ages. :( was going to ask about the ECI situation.

Good news for some!

Does anyone know what the percentage number of cabinets are between ECI and Huawei?

Does anyone know what the percentage number of cabinets are between ECI and Huawei?

Thinkbroadband recently estimated that ECI cabinets account for 6.3% of those installed under BDUK and 42% of commercial cabinets

It's pretty worrying. Too much more of this and the 100Mb hubs, 10/100 ISA card, and Cat 3 cabling in the house may struggle with this Next Generation Access network.

It'll blow my laptop away, too. It won't just blue screen; in awe of BT's heritage as British Telecom it'll red white and blue screen.

I did have some figures somewhere, but they were from about 2014.   The split was pretty even at that time.
But that's useless info now because the past few years Openreach have been mostly installing Huaweis.

I was told from a reliable source that the original trials included both Hauwei and ECI.   However when it comes to national rollout,  it does make sense that the '3dB' profiles would work best with those cabinets successfully using G.INP.

Another resync, another 1.4Mb.

Going to get an MDWS for people to fixate over soon.

There are those that monitor and those that forensically examine.  :)

Indeed I was.

To answer the above post it's being done in tranches and will take a while. ECI will be moved on to once the G.inp issues are sorted.

Good to hear it's on-going.  I have, naturally, been refreshing MDWS every 5.8 to 6.2 minutes to check for any change. I read somewhere that checking your stats at the same frequency as your SNRM rate was optimal. ( ;) )

With regards to ECI how much longer do you think before we see it back. Near on a year now since mine was disabled...thanks

Whilst I am not implying your information is incorrect there have been no further updates to  https://www.openreach.co.uk/orpg/home/updates/briefings/super-fastfibreaccessbriefings/sffabriefings.do  with regards to eci G.INP. To be fair openreach did update this fairly frequently but not for some time now..  hopefully it will come soon but I would expect to see an update here prior to any roll out,  wouldnt you agree?
?

G.INP:                     Enabled      Not enabled
