Title: vote - profile 35b or g.fast better?
Post by: Chrysalis on February 01, 2017, 05:29:02 PM
Guys please reply here stating which tech you would have preffered BT to follow (wont add FTTP to vote as everyone would vote for that).

G.FAST widest frequency and highest potential speeds but unable to utilise vdsl frequencies so only performs well on very short lines.
VDSL2 vectored profile 35b more modest frequency range however can utilise the existing vdsl range and as such brings a benefit to much more lines.

G.fast.

But at least initially, it looks like only a very small number of subscribers will actually benefit from higher speeds as it is going to be cabinet based, with FTTdp to follow much later. But then the very same customers are likely get full speeds on VDSL2 so it will be interesting to see how many will go for G.fast.

G.9700/G.9701 (a.k.a. G.Fast).

As it is slowly implemented, with time, the "nodes" will gradually move nearer to the end-users. The natural progress will be for FTTDP/FTTRN (to the Distribution Point/to the Remote Node). The final step will be FTTP, for the majority.

Tend to focus on what we currently have at the moment rather than looking at what we may have 8 years into the future and then by that time it will be obsolete, cannot vote as it would need to be currently available to me to say which one is better.
