Title: Vista Update Scrambling USB Devices, SP1 Auto-Rollout Stalled?

An update that went out last week for Vista to patch security holes in Windows Defender (ironically) is apparently knocking out some USB devices like mice and keyboards, so that they stop working entirely. Microsoft actually admits the issue: "We are aware of concerns that a recent Microsoft update may be causing problems with USB devices. We are investigating the matter, and at this time, do not have any information to share." So you might wanna skip that one. Speaking of, the Reg also says Vista SP1's supposed auto roll-out "remains missing in action" and has an MS spokesman seemingly confirm the delay. We installed manually a while ago. Anyone got the automatic update?

Now you know why I don't use auto update.

I'm surprised you're still using Vista. *hides*

BTW, I have never used auto updates.

Well I have 'auto-updates' set but no offer of SP1 yet.It was going to be mid April when it was rolled out to auto-updates.I did read though if your computer was not able to receive without problems then you won't be offered it.

Actually I'm not using Vista as such.

Yes it's still on the dual boot PC along with XP which is still the main program that I use, Vista is there more for "investigating" than anything else but no-doubt in time who knows it may take over (well maybe).

I find that a strange comment, it's an update and if your PC is active it will install the update.

I think what UB's saying is that if the PC has a known incompatibility with SP1 then it won't install it. Not had chance to look into this myself, but sounds fair enough to me... except...

SP1 shouldn't be released unless it's compatible with ALL known deployed Vista install scenarios. That means drivers, devices, etc. Need to check this out in more detail perhaps.

Thats right Mr Chris, some people who have jumped the gun so to speak and downloaded from the microsoft download centre have had problems. So I think Microsoft won't put it on auto update till its right.I think there has been certain hardware conflicts with some systems.
I don't think there is much difference when you do get it.My computer is behaving ok (at this moment in time)so I'm in no rush to get it. :)

My new PC came with SP1 pre-installed, although like I say, I don't use it much and there's no problems that I know of.
