Title: BT Router?
Post by: bob.gas on October 20, 2016, 02:45:16 AM
Now I have cancelled my BT pack, I have the BT Smart Hub Router spare.
I see it has a 5 star rating with PC Advisor.
So, would I be better off using this one instead of the new Plusnet one I'm on at the moment?

The BT smart hub isn't as good as it seems (IMHO). I've no experience with what Plusnet supply but if your not happy with it I'd go for a seperate modem, HG612 or a Zyxel set up as modem only perhaps, and a router of your choice. Then you can use the same kit whatever ISP you choose.
I'm actually on BT myself since September but don't use the supplied hub. One reason is the ease of getting stats out of it so you can monitor how your line is performing.

OK, thank you for your opinion cliver.

I did make a mistake in saying the BT hub I have is a 5 star rater.
I looked at the "Smart hub" one..Doh!!!

I only have this one....

So I'll stick with the Plusnet one for now, unless I get any problems with it.

Is your Homehub5 Type A or Type B?

Your Plusnet One is virtually the same as a Homehub 5 Type A.

I think it must be type "A" as the it fits perfectly into thew Plusnet router box.
And on the Plusnet box, it states "Sagecom. Plusnet Hub one  Self Install pack"

I guess both the BT & Plusnet are made by Sagecom then?

........and split the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz wireless, they default to same SSID which some devices don't like.

Yes I think I will keep the P/Net one.
