 :)

Not so long ago, I encountered a lone duck at a crossing doing pretty much the same thing.   I wasn't driving and so reached for my phone to film it, but fumbled too long and missed the opportunity. :(

I suppose somebody'll now come along and upstage the cat and the duck by saying they've seen an actual Zebra crossing?  :D

Told you so.  ;)

Apols, and shame, for linking to the Daily Mail, but they were top hit when I searched for a story. :-[

I wish I could train my cats in road usage. They do not often hunt in the road, and they can hear cars coming from a good way away. But I lost several cats due to road traffic when I was growing up on my parents’ farm on the edge of the Peak District in Staffordshire. I still worry about the road even as remote as we are here in Skye as we do get a few cars at certain times of the day.

This sort of thing has been going on for years. As a teenager I lived in a place called Hildenborough where there was a public house opposite a turning and right outside was a zebra crossing, down this road opposite lived a dog who used to visit the pub at lunchtime for half a pint (served in a large ashtray) and this dog used the crossing on his way to and from the pub. Later in the day the dog owner used to visit the same pub for a pint and pay for the dog's drink! Sadly pre-dates YouTube and video cameras by a considerable number of years  ;)

Then there was the famous case of the cat getting on the bus into town every day down in Devon... and then doing the return journey.

^ Amazing.   In the BBC vid, he seemed to know where to get off.  I wonder what made him decide to do an 11 mile journey every day :D

There's more footage of the cat after it crossed the road and returned home -

About 20 years ago I used to have a big kuro neko, who used to flip the letter box with his paw when he wanted to come in.  It had the effect of being louder than any door knocker.
He could also open the back door if it wasn't locked by jumping on the bin, then walk across the window ledge to the door and put his weight on the handle.  Never did manage to train him to shut the door behind him :(
Had no cat flap at that house as it had double glazed window type doors.

I lost my beloved kuro neko, Aonghus Dubh, a couple of years ago. We were very fond of him, but unfortunately he was a bully to his brother, Orange aka Tiddy Puss. Now since the brother’s departure, Orange is a new cat, happy and free to do whatever he wants. Orange tramples me while I'm in bend and headbutts me and Mrs Weaver at night time. He’s eighteen years old.
