I suppose the title says it all and it certainly may come in handy for some people.
Unfortunately some of the items are still under construction, but well worth a look see.

If you find any major tweaks, please list them.

I think turning aero off and going back to vista basic is a biggie.

There is a very mixed opinion whether turning off Aero does have any significant improvement on a "average" spec PC.

Surely it must if you think about the MS min specs for the different versions.

I think vista home basic will run with 512mb ram but ther is no aero.I have home premium with 2GB ram and aero is fine.It must be a memory hungry application.Never seen the need to turn it off.

The crucial aspect with Aero is your graphics card. If you have a decent graphics card, the CPU can offload a lot of the Aero processing onto the graphics card, and it probably won't impact on the running of your PC noticeably compared to turning off Aero.

However, an 'average spec' PC.. i.e. with moderately low spec (by today's standards) on-board graphics, will allow Aero to run, but especially if you're doing work that requires a lot of CPU use, you will notice the difference if switching between windows a lot.

And yes, I believe Aero does require a lot of system memory too.

Thanks for that explanation Mr Chris - now I understand when and where turning aero off would make a big difference.  :)
