Title: Line Test
Post by: tickmike on September 24, 2016, 06:23:49 PM
Our phone line is still with BT.
On our account page I can test the line for faults, eg we get a 'crackle' sometimes :o
so running the line test it knocks out the DSL connection and we loose broadband and the test times out and just says 'there was a problem run test again' it just does the same thing  >:D

I do not want to phone 'India'  :'(

How can this test every work ?.

I think the test will always knock out the DSL connection.

It's a long time since I last used it, but I just left the page sitting there, the DSL re-connected, and eventually the test result came up. It may depend on your router, how quickly it re-connects, and how quickly things time out due to your web browser, firewall and/or operating system. A router that re-directs you to some sort of page to tell you your connection is down is probably more likely to mess things up.

This may be the 'copper line test' that I run from time to time. It probably screws the DSL connection temporarily, if so that might be causing the error message. Could run it over a different internet connection such as using a mobile phone.
