Title: How much do YOU pay for your broadband connection?
Post by: Bowdon on September 21, 2016, 01:12:55 PM
This is an experiment thread as I was reading other threads and even on this forum we're not really sure what is the average money we're paying out to our ISP's. I'll be hoping to re-contract soon with BT. But it would help me and I'm sure others if we have an idea of whos paying what to know if we're a) getting a good deal, or b) we're paying too much.

I was thinking we can set it out as;

Quote
Internet Service Privder:
Type of Connection (adsl, fttc, fttp etc):
Price you are paying:
Package your on and advertised speed:
What speed you usually get:
Are you on or out of contract:

I know some people might feel odd about sharing how much they pay. But I'm sure it'll give a good mix of information for us all later on.

I'll start us off.

I don't disapprove but you need to be clear on what people are paying for.  Broadband, line rental, call features, calls and what ever else is tagged on eg TV.  By the time that you have done that it is quite complicated and I for one would need to think how to compare things.  I changed  a month ago and ended up with a spread sheet of prices  for the exact service I wanted ---- I notice that is out of date already.

Not going to bother with mentioning line rental or calls as you asked about broadband only, but my 80/20 FTTC is £39.20 a month for the broadband component.

As a general rule I get about 64 down, 19 up.

It's been very reliable and stable. TalkTalk Business has been pretty good for me.

Internet Service Privder: TalkTalk retail
Type of Connection (adsl, fttc, fttp etc): FTTC
Line rental: £17.70
T.V/Broadband/Phone: £5
Fibre Large add-on: £10
Sky sports 1-5+F1: £11
Total price you are paying: £43.70
Package you're on and advertised speed: Fibre Large - upto 80Mb
What speed you usually get: 55/8
Are you on or out of contract: 8 months left

Should be £10/mo more but both tv/broadband & fibre add-on are discounted £5.
Sky sports should be £32 but only £11/mo for 9 months, rolling monthly.

Will be switching to BT as 55/10 pretty much matches my line and would really benefit from Speed profile over the current Standard. Would be nice if other ISP's would offer 55/10.

@les-70 - when you wrote "100Mb", did you mean "100GB download allowance" (gigabytes) ?
