Title: BT electronics / photonics underground
Post by: Weaver on September 14, 2016, 06:06:32 PM
I've seen pictures and diagrams showing BT electronics installed under a manhole cover. Can this hardware survive if the pit is completely flooded? I've seen pictures of, for example, FTTN kit on a pole, would seem a lot less problematic.

The Huawei SmartAX MA5611 has been designed as a hermetically sealed unit and can operate completely immersed in water.

There is a little information currently available but the Openreach to trial G.fast in Swansea (http://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php/topic,15507.msg288378.html#msg288378) thread does make mention of what little is known.

Even in the days of coaxial trunk cables, electronics were installed in hermetically sealed steel cases that were pressurised and completely waterproof.
