Title: 3DB profile after ECI DSLAM firmware upgrade!
Post by: Dave2150 on August 03, 2016, 12:30:15 AM
My line retrained a few minutes ago, took longer than usual so I decided to check if my cabinet had finally been upgraded. To my surprise, not only has it been upgraded to version 'IFTN:0xb206 / v0xb206' - but it's also adopted a 3DB SNR profile, gaining me a few Mbit in sync!

I'm now roughly back where I was when my line had G.INP active. If G.INP ever gets reactived, I may be able to push 40Mbit on my 1.2KM aluminium line from hell!

Is this 3DB profile normal after the cabinet gets upgraded? I looked through a few threads and couldn't see any mention of it.

Also interesting to note that my upload also gained almost 0.5Mbit, fingers crossed this holds stable!

My line stats are on mydslwebstats if anyone is interested.

so you one of the very few ECI users on g.inp.

I be surprised if the cabinet needs to be upgraded for it, the only prerequisite is probably g.inp.

Why does your graph have so many gaps? Without 24/7 data I think your data cannot be conclusive.

There is also previous dips down to around 3db on the downstream snrm, so I dont think you have a target of 3db snrm.

No G.INP on my line, just a 3DB SNR profile since my DSLAM firmware got upgraded a few minutes ago. Perhaps you're looking at the wrong user on mydslwebstats? I'm Dave2150 there too, the same as my forum username.

My line hasn't ever synced at 3DB DS SNR before - so again I think your probably looking at a different user. My dslwebstats account clearly shows 'no G.INP' and I'm able to see that I don't have the extra 'bearer 1' type configuration on dslstats.

This sounds interesting. Mine has always been on 206 and was the second line on mydslwebstats to get g.inp but lost it weeks before others started to see it go. I will be keeping an eye on my cab to see if/when it gets updated like yours and to see if it gets the 3db profile.
Thanks for sharing.

I resynced this morning at the usual 6DB - so either the cainet DSLAM was a bit erratic after it's firmware update or some other environmental condition caused my line to resync at 3DB, I'm not sure which, I just know my line never actually directly sync'd at 3DB before.

Strangely enough my upload speed increase seems to have stuck - for the last few years I've been connecting at 6.8-7.1Mbit, though since this firmware update it's closer to 7.5Mbit.

I am looking at the same username, your line has large sudden swings on the DS, it has been at 9db as well as 3db in the past.  I am sure if you didnt keep disconnecting, turning your modem off etc. we would see this pattern more clearly.

Hi
My line resynced at 4am this morning with updated firmware:

CO ITU Version
DSLAM CHIPSET VENDOR: < IFTN >

With G.inp still enabled, SNR margin at 5 db. down and 4 db. up, US actual PSD is now 6.7 db. previously was 13.7 db. and Near End bitswap enabled.
My modem is a Vigor 130 so can’t upload to dslwebstats.

If you were looking at the same username, then why did you think my line was on G.INP, when my statistics clearly states "G.INP Inactive"?

Like I said previously, my line has never synced at 3DB SNR before, which is why I found it more than a coincidence that it did sync at 3DB after my DSLAM's firmware update.

I feel like I'm repeating myself here, it would be for the best if we'd stop debating this issue between ourselves :)

I assumed was g.inp due to the G next to the username which gets added on g.inp activation, I didnt know it did not get removed if g.inp is lost.

But regardless of that, your line has previous swings of around 3db, which I believe led to the mistake of thinking you got moved to a 3db target.

Both my lines resynced in the early hours at around the same time (VDSL2 at 03:20 and ADSL2+ at 03:23), now on v206...

DSLAM/MSAN type:           IFTN:0xb206 / v0xb206
Modem/router firmware:     AnnexA version - A2pv6C038m.d24j

SNRM 6.8dB DS and 6.3dB US.

DS Sync has dropped by 1.5Mbps while US has risen by around 1Mbps.

Power  was at 12dBm on DS and 4.8dBm on US. Now 5.6dBm on both.

Latency has dropped a little maybe 1 or 2 ms

Hadn't thought about that one... I've just changed so that if the line has had G.INP enabled in the past but it's currently disabled for whatever reason it now shows g instead of G against the user name.

Where do people live?

It would be interesting to see if there is any geographical pattern to when eci cabinets are changing firmwares.

Resync here and I'm on 206 on my ECI.

I'm in Nottingham

DSLAM/MSAN type:           IFTN:0xb206 / v0xb206
Modem/router firmware:     AnnexA version - A2pv6C038m.d24j
DSL mode:                  VDSL2 Profile 17a
Status:                    Showtime
Uptime:                    10 hours 6 min 59 sec
Resyncs:                   1 (since 14 Jul 2016 22:24:09)

I was on 206 originally with g.inp  when it was introduced and lost it with 206.

I'm seeing about about a 10% increase in US sync. But significant increase in ES US. now similar to DS. The reduction in DS power does not seem to have changed anything.

Increases in speed and lower SNR margin could just be because you synched back up before other people, so went higher, then the margin was pulled down by crosstalk as more came online.

Seems the simplest explanation.

^ I'd tend to agree.

Looking at MDWS is not the first time the line has sync'd at 3dB - there's a few occasions over the past year.
Also note there's a couple of spikes to 9dB. Indicating a differential of 3dB as to whether a cross-talker is on or off line.

excellent thanks :)

Thanks for the relies :)

Nice to see that many are getting decent upload speed increases with this new firmware.

Now that I've taken a closer look I too can see that my line has indeed synced at 3DB once or twice previously, I just hadn't noticed it. Thanks for pointing it out :)

It was perfectly clear previously whether a line had G.INP active or not, a yellow box clearly says "G.INP Inactive", though I guess some people need additional help to spot this setting, so your change is probably for the best. Many thanks for continuing to develop such an excellent resource for us all to use :)
