Title: Billion 8800NL port scans
Post by: NewtronStar on June 10, 2016, 10:16:39 PM
It has come to my attention that port 16450 on the Billion 8800nl is kind of open for usual probes to take place.

Does anyone know of a way to completely close this port off from any outside probes ?

Care to be a bit more specific to help other Billion 8800NL users?

what we noticed was port 16450 was not in stealth mode it was closed for something and a bit of digging inside the 8800nl and found it was being used for Skype with 4 rules set up and once removed then that port went into stealth mode.

Ah, that is interesting. As I have a copy of the Billion BiPAC 8800NL User Manual (Last revised date: February 27, 2014) I had a quick look through it to see if there was any mention of that particular software port number . . . without success.

Port 16450 is stealth here so it seems OK.

Not using a Billion but I have found it's as a result of uPNP.

Skype seems to need a separate port opened for each instance of the software running. I believe the port numbers are random and if you stop Skype, the port forwarding rule for that machine stops.

Thank you all have just removed the the two rules as seen on in the pic, and if the next time I use Skype and it fails to communicate with the outside i'll know why.
