Title: G.fast Router
Post by: adslmax on June 05, 2016, 11:26:15 AM
I think all of us as the VDSL wireless router is ok for g.inp, vectoring but are NOT supported for G.fast once the g.fast is activated by BT on the cabinet next year. Does this mean, all of us have to purchase a new G.fast wireless router? Is there any G.fast wireless router out there yet for UK?

I just hope Billion will updated firmware to support G.fast on Billion 8800NL?

G.992.1 (G.Dmt), G.992.3 (ADSL2), G.992.5 (ADSL2+) and G.993.2 (VDSL2) all use frequency division duplex.

G.7000/G.7001 (G.Fast) uses time division duplex.

Those two modes of spectrum division (for the DS & US bands) are totally different and I would not expect any currently existing modem to offer support for G.Fast. I expect "specialised" modems to be first introduced. (Remember when the VDSL2 based service was introduced . . . a dedicated VDSL2 modem was provided.)

You might like to review the G.Fast (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G.fast) wikipedia page.

it's also not as simple as OR (it's not BT) activating g.fast on the cabinet. g.fast is a totally different product, completely unrelated to the existing fibre cabinets. if there's space in the fttc cabinet they might install the hardware there, but you need to be much closer to the cabinet for it to work so they'll be placed underground and on telegraph poles too.
The way your question was asked (all of us) seems to assume all fttc cabinets will get g.fast. cabinets with very few properties within range for g.fast probably won't have the hardware installed at all. I don't expect to get g.fast at my cabinet, as although there's about 1000 homes within range for vdsl2, there's probably only 20-30 homes within the 1st 300m of the cabinet. The majority of served homes are much further away, the next property is probably just over twice that distance. they were built long after the original PCP cabinet.
