Just for info I thought I would post my initial findings after buying a Vigor 130 last weekend. BTW I'm a PlusNet user on an ECI cab about 400 meters away so wanted to see if matching the chipset would make any difference.
The HG612 used to sync at around 55M down and around 16M up.
The V130 syncs at a solid (hasn't moved for 7 days even after a couple of re-boots) 57.5M down but only 14M up.
What's interesting though is the speedtest.net results that I'm getting. With the V130 I'm seeing 5M-6M better on the download and roughly the same as before 13M on the upload.
So overall I'm happy.

Interesting. I run a HG612 off an ECI cabinet and get better speeds than with an ECI modem.

Thank you for your report. That is good to know. :)
In general, what works for one person may not necessarily work for another person. The best advice is always to try and see . . .

One other thing I've noticed is the HG612 used to have a SNR of 6.0 to 6.2 both up/down but the V130 is solidly 5.0 up/down. Any ideas why this would be? And what difference if any does it make??

just for info
i purchased a Vigor 130 to replace my unlocked HG612
after 2 weeks of trials, i can confirm the HG612 is superior !
using the vigor 130 , i was losing 10mbps (DL) and 3mbps (UL) !
My BT cabinet is a Huawei
strange fact, but true.
will just keep the vigor as a "plan b" should the HG612 keel over....

The Vigor 130 is Lantiq based whereas the HG612 is Broadcom.
Your speed losses are quite extreme but not entirely surprising.

..?
does the bottom line of the image below, not indicate the Vigor 130 is Broadcom...? or is that the Cabinet ?

That's the cabinet (Huawei, with a Broadcom-based DSLAM).

I got my info on the Vigor 130 chipset from this list - http://www.fcs.org.uk/image_upload/files/BTW%20List%20of%20Approved%20Modem%20CPE%20v7.pdf (http://www.fcs.org.uk/image_upload/files/BTW%20List%20of%20Approved%20Modem%20CPE%20v7.pdf)
Hopefully it is correct.

Just a thought - the 10Mbps you are loosing on the DL is the sort of number that G.INP could be giving you.
It's easy to confirm if the HG612 is using G.INP (assuming it's unlocked), but I don't know how you'd do the same on the Vigor.
Is the Vigor on the latest firmware?
