Title: I am new, can someone please help to take a look at my BT infinity 1 52M speed?
Post by: adnylee on May 19, 2016, 10:54:19 PM
Hi,  I just got hold of a HG612 , unlocked tonight .

I used to connect my HH5 to the extension socket , i have connected the HG612 in bridge mode to the master socket tonight, but still cant achieve higher than 27M speed :(

I am completely new to vdsl connection stats,  tried to learned some basics but still couldnt understand why my speed is so low.  could someone kindly help to take a look?

thanks a lot

DLM may have banded the connection speed, in response to multiple disconnections. It takes a few days for DLM to remove the banding.

Welcome to the Kitz forum.  :)

Just like as you have done for the xdslcmd info --stats command, will you please also obtain the output produced by the following commands and then post it here --
Sight of all of the above will answer a number of questions that one of our resident experts may ask . . .  ;)

thank you guys.

I did a bt broadband online check and reported the slow speed yesterday and it showed there's some fault.  The online fault tracker showed that it has been fixed today, and i noticed the broadband connection restarted around 2pm this afternoon.

I have ordered an Asus RT87u and set everything up about 2 hours ago. here are the output from the hg612.  i am still on about 27M DL and 7M UL.

thanks again !

Thank you for posting that information.

I can see that you are connected via a Huawei equipped cabinet and, currently, G.Inp is not applied to your circuit. As your SNRM is currently 11.8/16.7 dB DS/US it seems as if your circuit has been banded by the DLM. Your best course of action would be to leave the circuit alone -- don't disconnect or re-boot the modem, try to leave it undisturbed. All being well and assuming the fault (what ever it was) has truly been fixed, the DLM should relent and gradually make beneficial changes to the circuit.

Perhaps one of our more knowledgeable members will also take a look at the information and offer their interpretation of what can be seen?  :-\

Thank you very much!

will keep everything connected 24/7 and see if there would be any improvement in the coming days/weeks

Slow to this one, but I agree with what you've put.

Looking at the few errors that have accumulated over two hours, you'd expect DLM to not be /too/ interested in the line. However, I note with caution that (as a consequence of the apparent banding) the line is running with an SNRM of nearly 12dB. With such a high margin (and low speed), you'd expect there to be very few errors.

If DLM reduces its intervention on the banding (so increasing the speed), the SNRM will decrease, and the error rate will likely increase. We can only watch to see what happens.

@adnylee
Be aware that once DLM has intervened to add interleaving and FEC (as has happened on your line), modems have a habit of over-estimating the maximum attainable speed. If DLM reduces its level of intervention, your speed might not get as high as the 50Mbps that the modem currently reports.

On the face of it, it looks like DLM has altered intervention, so as to remove the old-style (heavy) FEC+interleaving, and turned on G.INP retransmission (with very light FEC+interleaving) and, as happens often, your line's capabilities have improved.

However, it seems to have kept the banding, but increased the speed thresholds.

There's more room for improvement...

There's a thread from earlier this year...
http://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php/topic,16804.msg310813.html#msg310813

It includes a repaired line, whose banding improved in leaps of 2.4Mbps or 2.6Mbps. Little steps, too.

That line stopped improving, so we'll just have to see where yours goes.

As you are using the HG612 and DSLStats already, perhaps worth uploading your stats to https://www.mydslwebstats.co.uk/

i have set the mywebdslstats up, but got the following error msg

Unable to upload MyDSLWebStats data ("upload" executable missing?)

There should be a file called 'upload.exe' (if you use Windows) or 'upload' otherwise, in the same folder as the other dslstats files from the downloaded archive.

i do have the upload15.exe

The other thing which can cause that error message is when the program is unable to write a temporary file which is part of the upload process. The DSLstats files must be extracted to a folder where you have unrestricted read/write access as an ordinary user. For example, MDWS uploads will fail if the files are extracted to the top level of C:\. I suggest that you move them to a suitable user folder.

I m running a windows 98 virtual machine,  used to run from the desktop,  now moved to C:\Download\ then got error msg related to 'curl.exe'  missing normaliz.dll,   copy the dll file over, everything works!

I'm pleased it works. Windows 98 indeed :)

Thanks Guys!

So far no more re-sync since last time which was more than 2 days .

I have another question, which is not related to VDSL.   I have my HG612 & ASUS RT-AC87U connected to the BT master socket in the storage cupboard,  the ASUS RT-AC87U runs quite hot, I would like to move it outside of the cupboard, just wondering if the AV1200 Powerline Adapter would work between HG612 & Router.

powerline will work so long as its the same ring main, but not at all recommended because of the noise they cause, which can severely affect vdsl circuits.
