Title: BT Infinity - offers for existing customers.
Post by: gt94sss2 on May 14, 2016, 02:24:23 PM
Existing BT Infinity customers (including those in minimum contracts) may want to have a look at https://www.bt.com/myoffer to see what BT are offering you.

I joined BT last August paying £10/month for unlimited BT Infinity 1 and am offered various deals including:

1. BT Infinity 1 at £10/month for another 12 months (@55/10MB)
2. BT Infinity 2 for 17.50/month

These options mean you also avoid the BT broadband price rises due from the start of July and if on BT Infinity 1 getting 55/10 now rather than waiting for Bt to upgrade you later

http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/56111 is the relevant BT FAQ.

Following the link above to My BT my offer is the same service for about £1 a month less but for 24 months.

If I log in to My BT via my normal route I am offered the same service for £6 a month more OR 76Mb service for a lot more a month.

Since I am 2 km from my cabinet I am lucky to get 17Mb.

Does not seem to be all that personalised!

Also as a BT customer for 40 years I am unhappy to see fairly recent joiners getting a better deal than me.

£1 less than you currently pay?

I don't think that how long one has been a customer determines what kind of offer you get - more what package you already have from BT, how much you currently pay and whether you are in contract or not.

If they were intelligent, they would also use the maximum speed your line could support in their formula but I suspect they don't do this.

You could always try calling BT's customer options team on 0800 800 030 and see what deal they will offer you if you say you are thinking of leaving due to the price rises due in July though I know many don't like haggling over the phone hence one reason why the link I posted might be useful.

Sadly, I think all companies tend to reserve the very best deals including cashback and free equipment for new customers - partly to get market share/as a loss leader and partly as they hope you won't move afterwards.

Still its interesting to hear about what others are offered..

It's a good link to post.  Some people have had emails alerting them to the offers  - but not all.

Yes - I shall certainly haggle about the July price rises. Being now fully retired from work I have plenty of time and energy to point at BT's direction!

So just signed up and got £2.85 a month off my present deal. Had to sign for 24 months but come the next price rise I can haggle again.

Also did 12 month LSR at current price so got the normal 10% off and avoided the £1 increase.

Bit of an attempt to sell my BT TV, Sports and mobile sim but all amicable.

I could get cheaper by moving but it works okay so I'll leave that sleeping dog to lie.

I'm getting rather fed up with BT and their mid-contract price rises. It looks like Plusnet, Virgin Media and Sky do the same aswell. According to [link deleted] it's only TalkTalk and the Post Office that currently offer fixed price broadband for the duration of the contract. Not sure I want to switch to any of those!

I wonder how many people get the £1 offer.

It seems a bit of a joke offer. They are just wanting people to commit to an 18 month contract, in my case.

Nothing has changed. I am currently with BT on the Unlimited 2 package. It costs me £54.49 per month.

I spoke to the BT retentions department and mentioned i have been a BT customer since the dialup days.  All they could do was offer to sell me the 'SuperFibre' range off packages. Even when i mentioned new customers pay £30 less than i do.

BT 'SuperFibre' should be done for false advertising. I only have FTTC.

So i've moved to Plusnet for £24.99 + £4 landline call package.

Was the £54.94 including so-called line rental or was that an extra tax on top? Oh and was that an inc VAT figure?
Title: Re: BT Infinity - offers for existing customers.

Hi Weaver, Here is the breakdown:

'This is the cost of your Package at £58.49 a month, charged in advance from
10 Mar 2018 to 9 Jun 2018.
This gives you:
Calling Plan Unlimited Weekend Calls
Broadband Unlimited BT Infinity 2
Line Rental Plus is now included in your package'

All they could offer over what i already have is hub replacement of hub if it fails.

The Plusnet hub is included. There is no activation fee either.

I've found BT to be one of the more expensive 'mainstream' ISP's - I did manage to barter them down to £37 on my Infinity 2 line with standard calls.

Although I've now been able to cease that line as my speed dropped below the minimum. To give them their due, their service/cancelation department is very thorough and helpful, they made it very easy for me to cease and port my number to Vonage once they accepted they were in breach.

I find their deals for existing customers to be okay. They obviously don't offer good deals to those tied in mid contact.

I currently pay £26.49/month for Infinity 1, inclusive of line rental. That deal is no longer available since the latest round of price rises.

They will offer existing customers Infinity 1 (with line rental) for £29.99/month.
You must be out of contract or possibly at the very end of your contract to get this price though.
Just ask to speak to the retentions department.

Just checked mine, they offered me the chance to "upgrade" to the exact same for an extra £5/month  £48.49 to £53.49 for Infinity 2

Is Plusnet any good these days?

Is Plusnet any good these days?

Oh.  Hello!   Just seen this as I've been out most of the day with med appts (which by now you know from elsewhere)   Spotted the name and thought hmmm so checked the mail addy ;)

I suggest you check this thread out - here (https://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php/topic,21686.0.html).

On a more serious note - yeah I still use them.   Support isn't what it was but my connection works without any slow-downs. I don't see any signs of congestion on their network and speeds are good.   Main bug bear is call waiting time on hold whilst trying to get through on the phone.    Is support any worse than any other the other mainstream providers?   I'll leave that to others to comment as I don't get into those convos.

Price is OK, but you do have to ring up each year to renegotiate costs if you don't want to pay full price.
I possibly could get cheaper (vodafone) but it has some restrictions which I would miss.    Glad I didn't move to vodafone as their network is having issues on their backhauls in some areas.

You've personally known me well enough and for long enough to know I don't BS.   If youre happy with BT and your connection then stay.   If you are looking to swap for financial reasons then it may be worth shopping around.

Can't recall now what your connection speed is, but from memory your line is stable.     Think the only problem about swapping to any providers these days is period of change when the Openreach DLM may temporarily affect your connection speed.

Thanks for the reply Kitzy <3 and thanks for the welcome Weaver.

My BT contract ends beginning of August so I'll aggressively tackle their customer retention department in a couple of weeks and if they can't help me out sufficiently I'll hit that PN referral link and see what they can do. ;)

Be aware that PlusNet is part of BT anyway, and they have had some whinging customers I believe. All depends on whether you want a cheap ISP or a good one. If you wish, ask around here for recommendations for good ones and look at ispreview for real customer reviews.

I don't consider BT a good ISP, I've had plenty of issues with them. Their support is pathetic unless you shout super loud. I'm firmly convinced that Be were the last good ISP and that now we're stuck trying to find the best of a bad bunch.

The offers shown on MyBT are more often than not woeful. You have to bargain with the retentions team to get a decent deal.

When Weaver says superb, he tends to mean AAISP or Zen.    I think those are about the last 2 ISPs with a good reputation when it comes to CS.

and look at ispreview for real customer reviews.

Don't forget we also have an ISP review section here (https://kitz.co.uk/isp/ISP_rating.php).

Which reminds me not done so myself in ages.   Just so you know, the last review is mine and honest as I don't have any speed or connectivity issues.  I thought about VFM for a while, but as there's only Vodafone that would be cheaper for me, I had to give 5* for VFM, because I'd find it hard to get stuff like static IP at that cost.   CS is the sticking point 3 stars, cause its now on a par with the other mainstream providers.

Yup sad day for me too when Sky took them over.     It just worked and I always found their CS to be excellent.   :(

Absolutely no worries.  TBH I don't like recommending in case it ever goes t1ts up for the other person and why I usually keep stum.   I'd much rather someone was happy and got honest advice rather than me get 50p :D

I've just been on the BT website. The new average speed rules certainly complicate things in my opinion.

It looks like BT have 4 FTTC products now.
Nowhere does it tell you what OpenReach product they provision you on, or what the maximum package speed is. I've had to look that up elsewhere.
They only give you the average speed.

Superfast Fibre Essential Unlimited
Average Speed 36Mb
40Mb/10Mb (new product?)

Superfast Fibre Unlimited
Average Speed 50Mb
55Mb/10Mb (old Infinity 1)

Superfast Fibre Unlimited 2
Average Speed 67Mb
80Mb/20Mb (old Infinity 2)

Superfast Fibre Plus
Average Speed 67Mb
80Mb/20Mb (new product with mobile data backup/double data for mobile customers).

They have a 40/10 product with a 30Gb monthly usage cap.

https://www.productsandservices.bt.com/broadband/deals/

Those with G.Fast pods or FTTP will also see UltraFast products. I'd be interested to see how the new average speed rules affect both of these.

And good point, reminder that this site has ISP ratings and reviews too. The ISP AA comes out top of Kitz users’ ratings list?

I hear good things about IDNet too, no?

I think you misread.  I mean Zen and AAISP are a couple ISPs who do still have a good reputation when it comes to CS. :)

Title: Re: BT Infinity - offers for existing customers.
Post by: kitz on June 15, 2018, 11:12:45 AM
On reflection I could have worded it better.

Yes I was looking around as Vodafone had a really good deal on for their existing mobile customers.   I also looked at Origin who seemed OK who use Vodafone wholesale for backhaul.     But that was at the time when I found out VF were on a strict no for using any modem other than their own.   There were also a couple of other considerations such as static IP and the fact they use Openreach Standard DLM profile rather than Speed.

With my connection being like it is, then I would end up being permanently being interleaved which was a major factor to consider.   On the Speed profile its giving me an additional ~4.5Mbps and better latency.   So bearing in mind there's only a few ISPs that use Speed, that basically limited me to AAISP, Zen, PN, ID-net or possibly BT.  So as I was looking based on cost, VFM and services it shortlisted it to PN.   So next step renegotiate contract with PN who price matched.

I hate how you have to price match each year these days and wish the ISP industry would stop this 'new customers only' malarkey which we can thank OFCOM for  >:(  At least PN usually will negotiate - but you shouldn't have to.

Ideal isp would be.

IPoE based, seems only TT retail and sky offer this in UK on FTTC
Native IPv6, IPv4 dual stacked.
Dont forbid own equipment.
Proper tech support with lots of tech info provided e.g. like AAISP with their profile reports and ping graphs.
Choice of backhaul AAISP can choose TTB or BTw
Monthly and 6 month contracts, again only AAISP
No jumping through hoops to report a fault.
Speed profile on DLM, maybe even allow end user to choose other profiles for preference.
Ability to use openreach's new DLM reset process.

Pretty much agree with that list - would add 'Unlimited Usage' to it as well. I love AAISP, but the quota is proving a little difficult for me thus far. For the first time in years I'm having to watch what I do online..!
Title: Re: BT Infinity - offers for existing customers.

Unfortunately there isn't a single ISP that matches that list.

IPoE limits you to Sky and Talktalk retail.
Both use the OpenReach Standard DLM profile.
All TTB backhaul via other ISP's is PPP.
Title: Re: BT Infinity - offers for existing customers.
Post by: Weaver on June 16, 2018, 12:40:15 AM
@Chrys Is that IPoE because of the overheads?

@Sotonsam what about 1TB ? Which tariff are you on?

I do not have a quota, I just use as much as I want. I am on the ‘units’ tariff, which is extremely expensive during the daytime weekdays.

Isn't that pretty much the opposite of what you would want given your usage Weaver?  :)

I don’t really know. I do not want to pay n times the cost of one of the more recent deals for n lines. I do not want to lose the current 1TB overnight for £3.90 + VAT or whatever it is that I currently enjoy. I have tried to work it out but just got completely confused by the sales staff.
Title: Re: BT Infinity - offers for existing customers.
Post by: johnson on June 16, 2018, 02:51:03 AM
Ah of course, I forgot about the cost of 3 lines. I doubt you have use for 3x even the lowest 200GB allowance, let alone the cost. Sounds like the units based thing probably works out best, especially if its so little for virtually unlimited overnight. Though if any ISP is able to give you a suitable bespoke package given your 3 lines and usage its AAISP.
Title: Re: BT Infinity - offers for existing customers.
Post by: vic0239 on June 16, 2018, 05:49:08 AM
I have a single 200GB allowance shared between two lines (including the bonus quota). The quota system manages this perfectly so both lines balance out over the month. So no need for the full quota on each line. £10 for the additional broadband service with no additional quota.
Title: Re: BT Infinity - offers for existing customers.
Post by: Chrysalis on June 16, 2018, 06:27:49 AM
Personally I dont consider AAISP's 1TB limit an issue, When I was younger I used to be a warez addict, and even in those days I never hit 1TB usage, but did have the means to at least hit that usage in those days, now days even if you watch netflix for long hours, on its max resolution surely you wouldnt even come close to it.  Some games are very big, e.g. when I downloaded GTA5 on my laptop for a second install it was 70gig, I had to map a network drive for it as the local storage in there is a 60 gig SSD.  Downloading such games 15 times a month? do people do that, maybe.  But peace of mind is a powerful thing so I can understand the want of unlimited usage.

If TTB was IPoE I probably would already be an AAISP customer.  I just hate PPPoE, since switching to sky cpu usage on my router is like 1/4 of what it was on PPPoE, and I have peace of mind over not having MTU related issues.
Title: Re: BT Infinity - offers for existing customers.
Post by: Weaver on June 16, 2018, 07:55:42 AM
@Chrys I have PPPoE and full MTU 1508. I don't follow your thinking, but then I am not you.  ;D  I would have thought pretty much all of your wish list items could be ticked. If you could try it you might become addicted to all the techies’ shiny bits.

@vic0239 Thanks, sales did eventually mention some such thing. But it is annoying that they have not catered for multi-line users with their new colon colon deals in the past and still do not advertise things properly for multifolks nor give out proper information. If you talk to some salespeople then you get the feeling that they don't even know or info is inconsistent and getting numbers that are both consistent / definite and non-scary is more than difficult. So I have played it safe and just decided to leave well alone.

They are charging me either £32 or £24 per additional line, depending on whether or not that includes BT ‘premium’ (well, I think £32 does include premium).

Haggled with BT, going to stay with them and will pay £15~ per month less than my current package whilst gaining a bit of mobile data and so on. Will be £5/month more than the current Plusnet offering but the PN price had no calling plan or BT Sport type junk that I'll occasionally use.
Title: Re: BT Infinity - offers for existing customers.
Post by: gt94sss2 on September 04, 2018, 10:47:40 PM
Due to the pending BT price rises, I've just also haggled with BT. Took a few phone calls over a period of days but managed to get £21.99/month for line rental  + Infinity 1 (but the lines have the free boost to up to 80MB they did last year) on two different lines.

Initially, they suggested paying the same as I was currently paying (i.e. no price rise), and then it went down to £23.99 but I held out for £21.99 by quoting the current TalkTalk 80MB offer of £20.84 (https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/phones/cheap-broadband/#76fibreoptic) (after cashback)
