Following on from the revelations re G.INP on ECI cabs, I have an ECI modem that I would like to unlock and have a try with. Whilst I certainly have the skills to do this, this modem has not been connected since late 2013 and therefore will not have the relevant firmware update.
If I go ahead and unlock it, does anyone know if it is possible to install a copy of the latest ECI firmware once unlocked?

From what I remember of the unlocking process, I believe that the inbuilt BTagent will still be able to update the firmware image.

I think the problem is that this will only happen after a DLM reset as it appears a PPP connection will not be established without the later firmware.

But I believe that the BTagent does not use the same vlan (tagged 101), etc, that is the normal end-user's conduit. The BTagent uses a totally different mode of communication with the ACS, via the vlan tagged 301.
I would be tempted to connect up the ECI B-FOCuS /r modem only, allow it to synchronise with the cabinet DSLAM and then leave it in that state over night. Next morning either connect a system directly to the modem (which would require the system to establish the PPPoE session) or connect the router to the modem. Then check to see if a PPPoE session is established or not.

Thanks for that suggestion Burakkucat - it is a good one but having thought about it I think if I'm going to go to the trouble of hacking it I may as well go down the Openwrt route.

I am also going to attempt to install Openwrt. Except I want to see how it performs on a huawei cabinet. If you find a good guide can you let me know thanks
