Title: Wireless Network/Security Problem
Post by: jaydog on March 24, 2008, 06:19:12 PM
Hi, I usually use WPA and connect via XP from my adapter to my router with a Netgear DG834G and a Netgear WG111 Wireless adapter.

I need to go back to WEP as my new wireless media player only accepts WEP keys.

However, no matter what I do, I cannot get XP to connect to the router with a WEP.

I wire the router to my pc, change to WEP and it connects fine via ethernet. But when trying to connect to the router wirelessly, XP finds the network/router, but when selecting it, it just says 'Please wait while windows connects to the ***** network'.

I have tried going into the settings and putting my WEP key in 'change order of preferred networks' but it just will not connect. But when WPA is used, theres no probs.

Any ideas?
Thanks

Have you tried to download a the latest drivers?

I have seen Netgear wireless adaptors which have refused to connect with WEP enabled...
In the end wireless security had to be completely disabled for the adaptor to connect up.

In the "change order of preferred networks" section, remove the network from that list, then try re-connecting to the network in the normal way, with the WEP key. I've sometimes found that to be the only / easiest way to get a wireless network working after a change like that.
