Title: Having a problem unlocking an HG612 3B
Post by: marjohn56 on December 21, 2015, 01:39:16 PM
I bought a spare 612 a few days ago and have just sat down with it to prep it before putting it back on the shelf.

Carrying out the normal 'Power up - Press and hold for 5 seconds' does not allow me to get to the web update interface on LAN2.

Running a 'ping 192.168.1.1 -t ' does show that the LAN2 comes up at that address but only holds it for about 5 seconds before disappearing again.

Is the only solution a JTAG approach or am I missing something. I have of course hacked one of these already so I think I may have answered my own question, but better to ask others before I start warming up the soldering iron.

***** Update ******

It's OK, on about the tenth attempt it worked, must have been a timing thing or I'm getting old, all sorted.

What's the main difference between the 08 version running on my existing 612 and the 10 version I've just installed on the spare?

***** Update ******

Just found out what the difference is, DOH! I'll up v08!

Have only updated the firmware on the HG612 4 times and sometimes it works staight away and other times it failed and always blame that on the small plasticky reset nipple on the HG612 and ten seconds is a long time to hold it in hard and then plug in the power socket

Yes, it was designed to be carried out by creatures with at least three hands, therefore it must have been made by Aliens. :)
