Title: Strange but True
Post by: feliscatusx2 on September 29, 2006, 08:21:37 PM
I need DirectX 9.0c and Windows Media Player 9 for a possible catastrophic upgrade.  So off I trot to Microsoft and download the DirectX runtime files, all 53mb of them, no problem.

To get WMP 9 I am told that I need to install Windows Genuine Advantage  :-X .

But WGA does not run on W98SE, or does it?

So I got WMP from Download.com  :P.

So is Microsoft getting it's knickers in a twist, or is it just me?

Finally enough the WGA tool does do something on Windows 98 and does let you proceed - I tried it once on a Windows 98 laptop when downloading something similar from the MS download site.

Well I'm going to put my awkward b****r hat on and have nothing to do with it.  I understand that under UK law WGA is actually illegal. but I don't think that I will try and sue Microsoft at the moment.
