Title: Cheeky Question
Post by: feliscatusx2 on September 29, 2006, 02:27:46 PM
Please don't all fall about laughing but:

Does anybody have a copy of Win ME they no longer need.

I need a legal full or upgrade CD with product key for a special project *.

Willing to pay a reasonable sum plus postage.

* What this involves is a piece of software that transplants chunks of ME into 98SE giving a hybrid system that is superior to either of the originals, & also incororates bits of XP if you can get your sticky little fingers on an XP CD.  The only downside is that Windows Update throws a hissy fit and won't work.

Have a look here  http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?s=4ad441ba607a3508b6c973d22e3545d9&showtopic=46349

Hmmm
I have an old Win ME upgrade disc somewhere, which was used when I needed to upgrade my daughters PC from 98 cause it wasnt playing with ICS and networking properly.

The PC has since been relegated to the bin after the mobo died, and the other bits were stripped off.
She now has my old XP machine so I'll have a rummage tonight and see if I can find it.

Sort of; slight technical difficulties at the moment, which could probably be resolved very easily if only this forum were not so damn slow today   >:(.

These difficulties are probably my fault  :-[, I await guidance from a higher authority .

After some  ??? and a lot of  :-X and a certain amount of :-[ { } ME is obtained, backed up to HD, CD & memory stick.

I didn't bother with the stone slabs as my chisel is blunt.

I have yet to decide whether to use the combined 98SE/ME or a full upgrade to ME, leaving out the flacky bits like System Restore, System File Protection and Power management.

Not forgetting of course to jump up and down on Active Desktop until it stops moving.

Watch this space.

Well, after various alarms & excursions, trips to Moreton-in Marsh (very chilly) plastering holes in the wall and other excuses, I finally ran 982me.pif and went and hid.

The system booted up OK & I now have a 98SE system with the good bits of ME grafted on.  Thus far thus good, no sign of any problems, even after I 98Lited the hybrid and got rid of stuff I won't use.

I even have native Firewire support  ::), although the PC has no Firewire ports

Rest assured that if it all goes pear shaped you will be the very first to know, except possibly any neighbour within 100 yards (and the cats).
