I wonder how much this costs.

We seem to be heading towards more flat designs with bright colours, everywhere.

Does the Design Industry suffer Fashion Trends also ?

There old one was flat too so no difference for mobile bandwidth etc.

I think the font for the old one was much nicer.

not so much for bandwidth but more to do with how it looks on small screens.

Waste of time and money if you ask me.

Googles new and old logos shrunk to 100 px and then 50px

I sometimes wonder if we are going backwards :(

Google has changed its logo. Is it important? Is it relevant to any thing I do? (You do? / The price of fish?)  :shrug2:

It is impacting all the Oses ... Android on.
After years of making higher & higher res devices to display the fancy Fonts & Graphics, the graphics are simplified because we now want to display things on a watch  ??? >:(

Essentially, you have understood the point.
Yet, Google felt compelled to do it anyway and media to report on it.
I am sure the Fish connection will be made clear in due course.  :)

I see the web page icon ('Favicon') has also changed, to a single multicoloured 'G'. 

The new Icon certainly looks prominent and eye-caching, but to me it is so prominent as to be almost a little aggressive.   Could this be a step back from the 'soft & cuddly' image that I thought Google generally tried to confer upon themselves?

Just my own subjective assessment mind, and no reason to think it will be typical of others.   :)
