Hi
Tentative at the moment but looking at moving to Melton Mowbray, a property we have seen is FTTC enabled however due to a longish run is estimated to get around 40/8 at best. Samknows shows Melton Mowbray exchange as having FTTP in some areas.
Is it possible to order FTTP and what might the costs be?

If its served by FTTC then the only way you may be able to get FTTP is if FTTP on demand is available and that can get very expensive - think four figure sums.
40/8 is still pretty good, we easily get by on around that. It might also be worth taking into consideration whether the property is fed by an eci or Huawei cabinet.

Thanks for the info.
I work from home and everything is cloud based these days and it tends to be the upload speed that makes the difference for me, so 8Meg upload is okay but faster is better of course. My company may contribute towards some of the cost of FTTP, just depends on how much it might be, so maybe 4 figures of say £2000 wouldn't be so bad, but 4 figures at £9000 a different story.
I've since read that orders have been stopped by Openreach for FTTP on demand at the start of this year with some new trial taking place to see if they can make it cheaper to install, so presumably at this point in time I couldn't even inquire and get a quote.

I thought they had stopped taking orders but wasn't sure, and there was only a few areas that had it available anyway. Thanks for the info, so I guess us as in the end user can not know how far away the aggregation point is without making an order or getting a quote for installation. So price may range from being pretty reasonable given some costs covered by my company and any money I put towards it compared to the cost of a new house is neither here nor there) to a lot of money, if I could order and get it at all! ::)
Food for thought, just wondering on options and possibilities.

That's a good point, although given cross talk I'm not sure if that is a guaranteed doubling of speeds? I think if I could get FTTP for say £2K installation that would be viable for me and would be more future proof as well perhaps, plus more reliable than trying to push plain old copper wire.

I guess that is because the two go hand in hand? For G.Fast they would already be pushing fibre much closer to properties to feed the G.Fast equipment, so for FTTP it's not much of a leap from there to the property? It's the if it happens and how quickly it becomes available really. Still if G.Fast is in the area the likely hood is I wouldn't need FTTP.

Just checked my brothers house in Bromely as I know that did have FTTPod available some time ago, and that's showing that FTTPod is still available to order on the BT Wholesale Checker (http://www.dslchecker.bt.com/pls/adsl/ADSLChecker.AddressOutput).
Just checked a property in Melton Mowbray (Surgery, LE13 0NF) and it shows FTTC but no FTTPod product available, so it doesn't look like one of the areas that had it available anyway.
Probably the best option is line bonding, although cross talk will affect the lines you will get more than a single line on it's own.

because sheep are grammatically fem in Gàidhlig. (like le and la in French)
And I whould say not Có (who) but "có leis" (whose). It's a bit odd saying "who was that sheep", unless your sheep have names, more like "whose sheep was it"

Yes, just found it strange to put it in a phrasebook for visitors. Strange sense of humour that may not be appreciated by the recipient.
