Title: Win10 update started on it own.
Post by: kitz on August 18, 2015, 01:22:45 AM
I deliberately set my update to not start without asking.
It was on the download but ask me..   and the effing thing looks like its decided to totally ignore any of my update settings.  >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

Luckily I was here at the PC.     So far its at this stage (see attached)

Help...   Im in no way ready to do the upgrade.

If I decline does that stop it completely.   Do I leave the damn thing sat open.

WTH??  I though it would just download and sit there until I told it I wanted to.   I certainly am not in any position to do a clean install anytime soon.

In my 'Random Thoughts' post I detailed the same thing happening.

You can stop it and it will sit there BUT if you re-boot it will start up again and try to get you to hit 'OK' to do the install.  >:( >:(

Be careful as the software will popup and nag from now on.

Any mis-click will start the process..

Once stopped .
Hide the update in the Update listing.
It will sit there until you are ready.

This is exactly what I was complaining about, it ignores your preferences and tries to install   >:( >:(
As said be careful of re-boots.

Ive declined and this is all I got.   Something did flash up quickly but because I have so many windows open I didnt see what it said properly.. something about cleaning up files I think.

I also have this if I click on the windows 10 thats sat in my sys tray, so at least it looks like its stopped (for now!)

Thanks.

Thanks.
That is really bad how it ignores your settings.   Ive hidden it, but fully expect it to nag me now forever until I obey :(

Ive just had a frickin heart attack.    This is on my PC.

I tried to cancel it but then it stops important updates.
However I think its duff info and I cant see that it is installing windows10  Ive searched the interwebs and I think it still says that even though I've cancelled and hidden the update.

Christ this W10 update malarky is like a trojan.. it really is.

Rebooting my PC -  :fingers:

Is it OK now ?
It may run stuff in the background but should ask you at some point to press OK to continue.
At that point you can decline the update.

I think what may be happening is win10 downloads whether you want it or not.
Once done it should stop ... IF you decline the update. It will then sit there and keep asking if you want to update every so often.
I hid the update at that point.
I am able to install other updates without win10 starting up again.
I just get a nag now and then.

A tad OT but went out for lunch with wife's sister and husband. In conversation I started to advise against W10, only to be told he'd installed it yesterday. ::)

He's worse than I computerwise, so omg! :-X

The number of people who must have installed Win10 by accident is huge.
It is so easy for the install to be started, particularly if you are not very techie and do the 'click windows to get rid of them' thing.  ::) ;D
I know lots of people who would click away then ask what did I do.  :o ;D
(Usually that is point I am asked to help ....... some people never seem to learn 'if not sure do nothing!'. )

There are lots of small PC shops making a tidy profit out of fixing broken/hung/partially working PC's & Laptops after win10 has been 'let loose'.
Very nice of MS to support the small businesses in the PC Arena.  ;D

As kitz has found out there has been a recent run on bits & pieces that people need to try to recover their machines. (Cables / Caddies / Disks / Ball Pein Hammers etc etc )
[OK ... maybe not the Hammers, although if you cannot fix the problem they can make you briefly feel better with some moderate exertion & financial cost.. :D  ;)]

and would you believe it?! I nearly did the same this morning, accessing the hidden WD task bar item.

Just scraped in time to Task Manager to stop it. Praise to my guardian

That is the problem in a Nutshell.

It is too easy to start it.
Obviously, just a programming logic error and not by design :)  ::)
