Title: Anyone accessing the HG612 stats using wifi?
Post by: psychopomp1 on April 01, 2015, 06:04:34 AM
Hi,
Just ordered a HG612 off fleabay so that i can check the stats of my TalkTalk Business FTTC line. This will replace my ECI modem which is connected to an Asus RT-AC87R router. I understand if i connect the router to port 2 of the HG612 permanently, i can acesss the stats (telnet or webgui) using wifi from any pc in my home, is this correct? As the HG612 and Asus both have a default ip address of 192.168.1.100, should i change the ip address of the HG612 in the Asus configuration? I guess the Asus would see the HG612 as another network device when connected via port 2 of the FTTC modem and therefore should be able to assign any IP address (within range) to it, eg 192.168.1.140, correct?

Finally, if i unlock the HG612 using the non-gui fw, what is the telnet command to disable the LEDs? Or can this only be done via the GUI?

Cheers :)

The HG612's default IP address is 192.168.1.1, so it should be fine with a router that is using 192.168.100

My HG612 is still using 192.168.1.1 & my Netgear router is using 192.168.1.254

With the HG612's LAN2 port connected to a spare router port, I can indeed access the stats wirelessly & via a PC connected to the Netgear by cable.

Once unlocked & set up that way, all PCs accessing its stats can have dynamically allocated IP addresses as they communicate with the router.

I don't know how to disable the LEDs via telnet.

Thanks Eagle. Sorry, just checked the default ip address of my Asus router and its not 192.168.1.100, its 192.168.1.1 (same as HG612). So would i be able to assign an ip address of say 192.168.1.140 for the HG612 in the router? I guess the HG612 would be detected as a network device when hooked up using LAN2 on the modem?

Yes, doing that should be fine. It is probably best to allocate a fixed IP that is outside the range you allow your router to offer for DHCP; with an HG612, I allowed by router to use addresses 100-199 for DHCP (ie 192.168.0.100 to 192.168.0.199), and set LAN2 of the HG612 to something in the 200's. The LAN2 connection of the HG612 is indeed seen as just another ethernet device on the network.

I had bought a Asus RT-N66U that was the same ip as the HG612 i.e. 192.168.1.1

I decided to change the routers ip to 192.168.1.2 . there is an option in the LAN settings to change the ip when you're setting it up. When you first change to the router, any webpage you attempt to go to will be sent to the routers page.

I noticed when I changed the router to 192.168.1.2 it means that the gateway ip, that you have to setup on some devices also needs to be set to 192.168.1.2 as well.

I thought it better to set the routers IP so if I want to change out the HG612 for a different one, it'll be just in and out and the default modem ip will be fine.
