Title: Roadworks.org
Post by: renluop on March 28, 2015, 08:37:21 PM
I found that site a little while back. It gives a very compehensive list of all works and those responsible

Here is one example that followa location and dates
Quote
Responsibility for these works:   BT
Highway Authority:   Hampshire County Council
Information for Road Users
Location:   Fyfield, Andover, Hampshire
Traffic lights, etc:   Some carriageway incursion
Information for Operational Teams
Location:   (PCP2) BDUK. REAR OF 9 DUNCANS CLOSE TO JUNCTION DARK LANE ON FYFIELD.
Description:   Install 30m of 2 poly ducts in Verge,Provide 1 Provide/Recover 1 NGA Cab and base (1.5m x 0.5m),Test 10m of existing ducts to locate blockages.
Works ref:   BC005WP00400500170989800
Current status:   Work in progress
Work info last modified:   14:52 on 28/03/2015
Last updated on roadworks.org:   16:22 on 28/03/2015
Data source:   BT

May such info be useful to find what BT is doing at the cab down the road. I'm guessing they're getting ready for fibre, or may be the tin cans are rusting and the string fraying. ;D

Tin cans rusting is an EU problem, not BT :P BT are just replacing the string with cheaper string :P

Renluop,
Yes it is a good way to track ALL works being done, not just BT.
Works best in the short term as sometimes works registered well in advance can be delayed/rearranged/canceled/etc.

Perhaps Blacksheep will tell us if this rumour is true: BT are supporting UKIP, believing the EU can be blamed for most faults. >:D

Much work is going on near me according to said site. I can agree that there is work going on but the work description suggests the cabinet hasn't been installed yet, but it has: it's been there for weeks now.

I was wondering when using the roadworks.org website, when clicking the tab it gives us information but some of it is cut off.

How do we see the full description?

I'll attach an image of what I'm talking about.

I just use the mouse scroll wheel or the scroll bar at the side. Nothing is cut off.

I can only scroll up and down but the description is still cut off. In the image the description is this;

Description:
Maintenance dig required to expose and repair a faulty buried joint, also try to attempt to install...

I'm trying to figure out what it says they are attempting to install. How do I expand the description to finish the sentence?

I think the roadworks.org information box is: https://roadworks.org/?106261687 (https://roadworks.org/?106261687) see if there is a way to find what the end of the sentence is.

may seem a naff comment, but if any one's memory is like mine, they can right click hold and  highlite all the text to copy and paste.

Looking at the page source, all it has is

Code: [Select]
<td class="rwCallout_info">Maintenance dig required to expose and repair a faulty buried joint, also try to attempt to install...</td>I can't see how to get the full info.

I think it's probably just a case of the description can only have so many characters and they have copy pasted the little that fits.

As jelv points out above the info isn't there in the page source so it isn't possible for the description to be expanded or scrolled or clicked in to in any way.

It is a little deceptive as it's clearly an incomplete description and the 3 ... 's hint to the the rest of the info being available but it seems not.

I've been looking at the site for my local area and around, (bits of SW Hants and E Dorset). There are quite a few kiosk removals planned in small villages. I guess their patronage is minimal.

As this thread has been revived I thought I would update you all to the fact that Roadworks.org now works in Scotland.

ELGIN announced this morning at the conference I went to that they've finally worked things out with the Scottish Highway Authorities and the permits/notices are now being displayed.

Had a quick gander myself and the permit description fields don't appear to be populated at the moment. Might be a teething issue.

Example of City Fibre permit:
Roadworks on Ravelston Dykes, Craigleith, Edinburgh, City of Edinburgh https://roadworks.org/?106285797

Ahhh! SWEET!

Scottish roadworks site is a poor imitation.
Excellent that this now works north of the border  ;D
