As of 9th March 2015, completely updated HG612 Modem Stats programs are available for existing users via the system’s GUI.
The full system is available for new users or existing users wishing to completely refresh everything via the usual download site:-
http://www.freewarefiles.com/HG612-Modem-Stats_program_84567.html
If obtaining the zip file from FreewareFiles.com, click the blue “Download Now” button & choose one of the two “Download Locations for: HG612 Modem Stats 5.0” links
If setting the system up from the downloaded zip file, ensure “Expand folders” (or similar terminology) is enabled & unzip the files to the root folder of Drive C:\ for the various folders and files to be created in their default locations.
These default locations (and various default settings) can be changed by users if desired.
What’s new in Release 5.0 March 2015
=====================================
=========================================================================================
NOTE:-
Version 4.0 was never fully released as only various beta versions
were released for testing purposes
=========================================================================================
* Appears to work O.K. with Windows 10
* Added support for connections where G.INP has been enabled
The programs will operate as per usual until such time G.INP is enabled by BT OPenreach
(on a phased basis starting February 2015)
As soon as G.INP has been enabled, the v 5 programs will detect & store the
new/changed/additional data & generate individual graphs & montages of them accordingly
This has been tested on HG612 modems only at this stage, due to the lack of any data
from Billion and ZyXel modems (& any others that operate in a similar manner)
* Added MydslWebStats web based support
Once registered via the GUI link, users can now view their most important stats online
from anywhere in the world
* Various programming reliability improvements
* Increased event/error data stored in log files (optional)
Storage of this extensive program troubleshooting data is switched ON by default
However, as the log files rapidly become huge, the options to store extensive
error/event data can be switched OFF via the GUI & switched on again if there
is ever a need to debug suspected program errors
* LOS, LOF & LOM data now recorded & plotted in FULL__MONTY & individual ongoing graphs
* Various improvements to the graphing displays, now also showing average error counts
per minute, per hour, per day & total error counts for the graphed period in some of
the graph title bars

The update went very well using Ronski's GUI update function many thanks to all.
-
I used the GUI update function, and both solved a problem, and hit a slight snag...
Snag: After the update, I had the GUI warning me that modem_stats had the wrong number of fields; the details of the error were available in the GUI Error Log.txt file.
However, it appears the update was only part-way through: I had to do a second upgrade to include the "uploader". After this was finished, all seems to be running normally again.
Problem solved: I swapped to a Billion 8800NL, a week ago, and lost the ability to perform snapshot graphs. This was restored with the update.
-
Thanks for the feedback WWWombat.
I'm glad it's now apparently working O.K. for you.

Update went well. I had to take down avast's shields for the update to perform properly. When it was done, everything was back up and running again.
Thanks for making and keeping this program updated. Its an excellent source of information :)
-
BE are the billion 8800nl fixes in this release? (ommited from changelog)
sorry I didnt have time to test zyxel.
Also G.INP wont work on the billion anyway as the firmware doesnt even support it yet :D

Yes. They are included in this vague changelog entry:-

O.K.
G.INP hasn't been tested with a ZyXel either (yet).
(Hopefully), the programs are now ready for it though.

Hmmm. I tried Avast for a few days when I thought AVG was becoming a little too bloated & eating memory.
I soon ditched it though as I found it a bit of a P.I.T.A. with its false positives & its method of dealing with them >:(

You're welcome.
I just hope it is of real use for some of you, particularly in helping to 'prove' physical connection faults when tests come back as LTOK.

Snag: After the update, I had the GUI warning me that modem_stats had the wrong number of fields; the details of the error were available in the GUI Error Log.txt file.
I've seen this happen once on my system and also on someone elses, it's just a minor bug that happens during the latest update. If it persists I'll look into it.
However, it appears the update was only part-way through: I had to do a second upgrade to include the "uploader". After this was finished, all seems to be running normally again.
This is normal behaviour, the version of the GUI you were using was unaware of the Uploader program, the updated version of the GUI then checked for updates and found the program missing so offered the further updates.
I'm going to make the suggestion that anybody updating should temporarily disable their anti virus, especially if running Avast. When I update Avast complains about various programs and whisks them away, I then manually put them back, manually scan them with Avast and it pronounces all is OK. So one part of Avast thinks it contains a virus, whilst another says it's OK, does make me wonder just how reliable Avast is!
Part of the problem is that Anti virus programs inspect the code and look for suspicious behaviour and blocks them if it finds anything odd. When hundreds of thousands of people are using a program they will get many reports of false positives and investigate, with our programs with probably a few hundred or so users I doubt they get many reports at all.
So if any one's anti virus flags any of our programs as a virus please report them as a false positives, the anti virus companies will then take a closer look and white list them.

Too late for me !!!
This evening NIS Internet Security quarantined hg61_run.exe (and all my back up copies of it) as it was allegedly infected with trojan.gen.
The latest version of HG stats is not installed on my desktop (it is presently release 2 4/2/14) and the monitoring system has not been active on my machine for a while.
So no great damage done, but I thought you might appreciate a heads up. Symantec have obviously very recently released a virus signature that has taken exception to hg612_run.exe. I have advised Symantec but as the quarantined file is probably not the latest version it may not be terribly relevant.
I may as well take this as an opportunity to reinstall V5 from scratch. Can you tell me what HG612 firmware version should be run in conjunction with HG Stats these days as I've rather lost touch not having used the monitor for some time?
Thanks BBN
EDIT: I note that the above link to the freeware files site results in "page not found". Is there a problem or is it just me?

No, its not just you. When taking that link, I see --

The page or file you requested has moved, no longer exists, or is in our queue awaiting re-approval.

HG612 Run.exe hasn't changed since I first compiled it from a VBA script some years ago.
As for freeware files, we made a minor update last night and it seems there was a glitch, I've re uploaded tonight but it takes them a while to verify and release any updates.
As for the firmware you should using the lastest version, available from here (http://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php/topic,14262.0.html).
-
No issues when using Microsoft Security Essentials and ditched NIS Internet Security 2 years ago it became the most CPU and service & processes intensive software i have ever seen for security on a PC and I was a Norton fanboy since 2002.

HG612 Modem Stats should work with any of the HG612's firmware versions, but the latest version as found in Ronski's link (B030SP08) is recommended as it uses the latest band plans, offers better bitswapping & is definitely G.INP ready.
-
Many thanks for the feedback and pointers guys.
As hg_run.exe has not changed since I first loaded it onto my machine 2 years ago, I was anticipating problems installing version 5.
And I was right - NIS does not like it (see picture).
Never mind I'm sure I'll find a way around it one way of the other.
Again thanks for all the advice.

You can restore and trust it in the settings

Tony
Thanks - that worked for that particular file already resident on my PC. However when I try and update the system via the GUI, NIS intercepts the web traffic and quarantines a number of files such as hg612 gui update.exe before they can even be saved on my PC.
Looks like I will have to turn off NIS, then download V5 (assuming the broken link noted earlier has been fixed) and then turn on NIS. I guess I will then end up with a number of files saved on my system which NIS will quarantine, and which I then can restore individually.
However it does mean that I have to totally trust the download site which I'm not really happy about. Its obviously very bad practice. Unfortunately looks like this update is going to be a PITA. Thanks Symantec!
-
Just literally had an email from Freeware Files to say it's back up, just checked and it is live
My brothers been having a lot of trouble with Avast, even though he adds an exception for HG612 Run it still deletes the task and removes the file >:(
-
Its most likely the cloud stuff blocking it, I have avast on my laptop and will try to run the gui on there to see what happens.
-
Just to let everyone know that I received 2 emails from Symantec this morning acknowledging that hg612_run and hg612_gui_update were "false positives", and that they will be removing these 2 programs from their virus detection database. So Norton Internet users should be in the clear following their next Live Update.
I was impressed - they responded and fixed this within 36 hours.
Please let me them know if you are a NIS user, and any further "false" positives are encountered.
Regards BBN

I have clearly missed a step in trying to set this up for the first time.
After following the instructions, I have 4 green boxes, yet no data is being collected.
No files have been created in any of the folders. I have disabled all security (NIS).
I have deleted all files and started again several times. I've checked the IP address is ok (192.168.1.150). Im using the HG612 with latest firmware with GUI on this site.
Any pointers?
THanks
-
ON further investigation it is due to windows 8 smartscreen protection - the first time an unrecognised app runs, it needs permission.
I had to manually click on the HG612_stats.exe that was being called for in the task manager to force the smartscreen protection to appear before I could allow the app.
Do I need to do this for all the apps in the script folder?

Is that the IP address for the modem, your router or your PC?
Please see the attached for the default modem settings, which should work with any dynamically allocated PC IP Address as long as your router is also in the same 192.168.1.xxx range (and if the router is connected to the HG612's LAN2 port).
-
I see you have now discovered the solution.
I'm not familiar with the Windows 8 smartscreen protection, so you may need to 'allow' all the programs in the Scripts folder.
One or two programs also reside in the Apps folder, but let us know how you get on.

I think you will need to do it for the following:
- HG612_stats.exe
- HG612_current_stats.exe
- Set_HG612_Date_and_Time.exe
- HG612_Run.exe
IIRC there is a bit you need to click to expand the options when the smartscreen pops up and then there is a check box to tell it not to ask again. Kept meaning to get a screen shot and kept forgetting.
-
Ok thanks will check all of those exe files. When the blue screen appears with the smart screen warning you have to click more info then allow app. There is a tick box to check to stop this message for each app.
I have noticed that when you run the set_hg612_date_and_time.exe, it appears to use IP address 192.168.1.100, even though mine is configured on 192.168.1.150.

Just a heads up on what the smart screen filter is on windys 8/8.1

I presume you mean this:-
User Name : admin
Login IP : 192.168.1.100
Login Time : 2015-03-16 21:44:50
Login TimeLen :
That confirms that you managed to login to the modem.
The Login IP should be the IP Address of the PC used to login.
It should be part of the entry in the file named Login_events.TXT, which should be stored in the Event & Error Logs folder.
In the same folder, amongst the other event/error logs, there should also be a file named SET_HG612_DATE_AND_TIME.LOG
That file should have contents that look something like this:-
16/03/2015 21:44:49.942 - Start of SET_HG612_DATE_AND_TIME.exe
16/03/2015 21:44:50.223 - malloc() O.K.

Yes I now have it up and running. Uploading to mydslwebstats. Thanks to everyone for support / advice. Hopefully the hg612 will lead to my banding bring removed. ........

Just a quick note to inform you that some of the HG612 Modem Stats programs have been recently updated.
There are a couple of changes to which graphs are included in the Ongoing montages for G.INP active connections & how some of them display the data.
The other noticeable update is a bug fix for Billion & ZyXel modems on G.INP active connections, where some of the programs ceased working with those modems as soon as G.INP became active.
The various programs can be updated via the GUI's update system for now & the updates will also be included in the full FreewareFiles.com compressed download file in due course.
-
The software no longer work on Billion 8800NL after G.INP was enabled. (use to work before G.INP)

Hence the updated programs.
Or are you saying it still isn't working, even with the updated versions?
They have only been available via the GUI's update system since this morning.
See the attached for the latest versions.
-
Thanks, I just updated to latest version. All working ok now :)

A question for the future - when I eventually get fibre
In a post in the Plusnet forums you stated that the program should be unzipped into a folder in the root C: directory
Why is this as I really don't like having programs there
-
I dont either and its possible to change it :)
I've done a set up guide for HG612 modemstats (http://www.kitz.co.uk/routers/hg612stats_setup.htm) and you can see on step 4 how to change the paths.
-
Thanks kitz.
You beat me to it :)
-
Word of caution, don't place it in any of the system folders, as it causes all sorts of permission errors.
-
I'm confused. In the root of the zip file are a bunch of executables. The Setting up HG612_Modem_Stats tutorial says run HG612 Stats logging GUI.exe which should be found in the HG612_Modem_Stats\Scripts folder, however the version in there is older than the version in the root of the zip file. The same applies to other executables that are both in the root of the zip and in the scripts folder.
Why are there two copies of each?
Which should I be using?
-
hmmm I checked mine and they are all where they should be.
So I downloaded the latest version direct from the website and you are correct - there are what appears to be duplicate files in the root and in the scripts folder. The newer versions appear to be those in the root.
I wonder if ronski accidentally put them in the wrong place during an update.
If you are impatient you could use the ones in the scripts folder (which is where they should be), and then let the program do an auto- update.
Best wait for ronski to confirm, but I dont think it would work properly if you use the ones at the root because afaik they have to be in the scripts folder.
-
OK, I took a flyer and copied all the programs from the root directory in to the scripts directory. That seems to have worked as Programs versions & updates says everything is up to date.
-
I wonder if ronski accidentally put them in the wrong place during an update.
Yep, I put them in the wrong folder :-[ I've corrected it now.
-
When I click exit it says some of the logging options are turned off, do you want to turn either of them on? I can't see what it is referring to!
I've now got it uploading to My DSL Webstats
-
The logging options are Ongoing Stats & Snapshot Stats
They will be shown in green if they are turned on or red if turned off (see attachment)
-
I was thinking of the snapshot as a purely ad-hoc on demand thing - not take a snapshot at regular intervals.
-
The 'Run snapshot stats' button is the one that will create the graphs ad-hoc on demand.
-
Yeah, got it now.
There's a huge amount to pick up jumping from ADSL to FTTC!
Perhaps I'll soon get back to trying to beat the TG582 in to submission and to play properly with IPv6! I had one running nicely on ADSL.
-
For info:
On the latest Windows 10 Build 10061 I am getting "Scheduled task does not exist" but the task appears to be running fine. Ran fine under previous builds. Deleting and rebuilding the task produces the same result.
-
When I get chance I'll take a look, my laptop updated to the latest build last night.
In the scripts folder ix am editor folder, in there is an editor ini file, can you check to see if the task name matches please?
I've seen two cases recently, one was my server where the task names didn't match, unfortunately I've no idea why it changed.
-
The task name is the same. Strange thing is that although I can see the task is running in Task Scheduler, I cannot access or see the task itself i.e. the task does not show in the Task Scheduler Library, but it is showing as running in Task Status!
-
My laptop is currently on build 10049 and all seems normal. Nothing shows under Task Status, only under active tasks. Perhaps MS have been mucking about with security permissions on the build you have, my laptop is set to fast so should have the latest but MS do push out different versions to different people to test things.
-
Interesting to see what happens when you get the 10061 Build, as earlier builds worked fine for me!
-
When I first booted 10041 from a clean install the keyboard was doing nothing so had to do a unclean reset and it worked after the reboot.
-
Interesting to see what happens when you get the 10061 Build, as earlier builds worked fine for me!
Now on 10061 and confirm the same behaviour, when I get time I shall try and see what MS have done.
-
The latest build 10074 works fine again, so I guess it was just 10061 that was the problem!
-
Thanks for letting us know, it is a beta after all.
-
Trying to download software but saying file or page not found any ideas
-
Ronski is aware of this & he emailed FreewareFiles.com yesterday to get the page back again.
-
Ok any idea on how long
-
I'm afraid we'll have to await feedback from Ronski.
He MAY be willing to share a direct link to his own server's download location, if you ask him nicely ;).
-
Here's a direct link (http://www.ronski.me.uk/downloads/HG612_Modem_Stats_Programs-r5.1.zip) :)
I'm not sure what's going on with Freeware Files, I've had no reply to my email and they are normally pretty quick, any way I've resubmitted the program (it was still in my account when I logged in) and see if that gets it back on there.
-
Thanks Ronski I will go and play now
-
ronski why did you use them in the first place?
direct linking is always king in my book, these 3rd party sites just make downloading more of a nuisance.
-
It was because we could see how many times it had been downloaded and people could leave reviews/rate it if they wanted to. Can't say it was ever really a nuisance and this is the first time I've really had a problem that's not been easily sorted - perhaps they are on holiday.
-
is it that important to know how much its downloaded?
if it is awstats or some other analyser can get you those stats.
-
Not important, but it was interesting to know at the time.
