A few people have reported strange behavior of DSLstats which I've been unable to reproduce. Recently two of these have been resolved by moving the DSLstats files to a directory where they have full read/write access as a normal user. I've updated the installation instructions on my website to reflect this, see http://www.s446074245.websitehome.co.uk/installation.html . The extra conditions are highlighted in red.
If anyone is getting startup problems or problems with MDWS or the webserver, could you please check that these conditions are being met. Thank you.

Would setting it to run as administrator be an alternative? (is the security different on different Windows versions?)

FWIW, I have tried v 5.4 on my Windows 7 system without any apparent problems.
Everything is installed & specifically directed to a folder I created though, rather than using the default location setting(s).

Thanks for that information :)
@jelv: The truth is that I don't know in the case of Windows, so I'm simply trying to eliminate variables.

It depends where the directory was created - is it inherited permissions? For example folders created under Program Files on Windows 7 Professional don't have Users Write/Modify permission by default (it might be different on W7 Home). I ran in to similar issue with RouterStats which I solved by creating a folder in the root of the C: drive.
