Title: Changing DNS on HG612
Post by: gooseman on December 17, 2014, 08:51:02 AM
I have an unlocked HG612, with A2pv6C035m.d22g firmware. I'm trying to change my DNS provider, but it always shows the BT DNS in the WAN section:
* 31.55.186.18
* 31.55.187.26

I've tried to change the DNS in Basic -> LAN -> Primary/Secondary. The new DNS numbers are there, but even after a reset, nothing seems to change. Any tips?

Thanks!!

Assuming you have a dynamic WAN IP then you cannot change the DNS servers passed by your ISP. However you can change the DNS servers passed to connecting devices on your LAN which is something I have done on ah HG612. The issue with BT and perhaps others is that they intercept the DNS request in their network and spoof the returned data as if it came from the server you are attempting to access. There is no easy way round that. I should add that you can also specify the DNS to be used in the IP setup on your devices themselves.

Thanks for the info - how did you make that change?
